full refund on pick up item without making a claim?

I sold some boxes as a buy it now and the buyer paid through paypal yesterday.

They picked up the boxes today then an hour later txt me saying

what she bought was not worth $48.00 and that I had ripped her off. ( even after I threw in extra left over boxes for free!)

I told her that if she was not happy then she should not have taken them.

She says that if she opens a case then it will negatively impact on my account and that I should do the refund without it.

I have never heard of picking up an item, taking it home and then txting for an item not as described later.

She said she is bringing the boxes back tomorrow and that I am a digrace for ripping her off. I told her I didnt force her to bid to begin with and my description was accurate.

What do I do if she doesnt put in a claim and dumps all the boxes on my doorstep?

Sounds like extortion if you ask me, and thats against EBay policy.

Did she write it in a email via EBay to you, or tell you over the phone / txt?

This is what Id write, or something like it - keep ALL communication with her via the EBay system so that EBay can see it -

"regarding your recent threat against me of opening a case if I dont refund you for your change of mind. Ebay has strict rules against buyer extortion. If you choose to return them to my doorstep, this will be at your own expense, as a refund will not be issued. Any further attempt at extortion or intimidation from you will result in a report to Ebay and to police."

Thats what Id write to her anyway. She'll try to intimidate you because she has your address, and that would seriously **bleep** me off, rather than make me scared. Dont let her get away with any of it. But at the same time, keep calm and professional (dont put emotion into it).

Either way, she wont win a case against you for a pick up item (she viewed the items in person before chosing to pay for them and take them home).

If she leaves negative feedback, report it and the situation to Ebay and youll have a good chance of it being removed due to the extortion.

Also, add her to your block list, so she cant buy from you again.

There is no buyer or seller protection on pick-up items so the buyer should have walked away from the deal if she wasn't happy (and paid in cash not Paypal).

You are under no obligation to refund the buyer and she can't win a dispute for a pick-up item not as described, though if she funded the Paypal payment with a credit card she may be able to do a chargeback, but I doubt she has done that or else your payment would be shown as pending.

If it's the buyer that has already left you a neg, if it was me I would not refund. That neg could probably be removed if you call eBay and ask to speak to a supervisor and explain what has happened.

Padi, the payment would only be pending if the buyer funded it with a bank account and did not have a credit card attached to the account.  Paypal funds or credit/debit card payments are cleared immediately.

If the buyer does manage to open a dispute just ring paypal and tell them it was a pickup item and therefore there is no seller/buyer protection.

Not so sure about that lyndal, a while back a payment went through my credit card account instead of my normal bank account through Paypal (the gremlins must have been at work.....), and that payment was pending for a few days until cleared......or was that another Paypal glitch?????

Padi, sometimes PayPal used to randomly pay as an e-cheque if an account had made many purchases.

Payer would often be unaware it had changed.

Could have been one of those.

Definitely a paypal glitch Padi.   By adding a credit card to your paypal account ALL payments are supposed to be instant, even when funded by a bank account.

A while back I made a mistake when paying a UK seller....paid one payment funded by CC and the other one from bank account when I forgot to change the funding source.

The seller would not send the bank account funded parcel until it had cleared, although he sent the CC funded one.

I rang PP and they told me it was a glitch as any bank account payment that has a CC attached should be instant.

full refund on pick up item without making a claim?

Hi,

Thank you everyone for your replies!

"She says that if she opens a case then it will negatively impact on my account and that I should do the refund without it."

She wrote that in a text message. The more I think about it it does sound like ebay feedback extortion, the fact that she txt me also rather than emailing through ebay ( isn't it an unspoken law that you just dont do this if there is an issue?- txt rather than email I mean!) it was almost like she was waiting for me to offer a partial discount!

I havent heard back from her since I replied to her txt telling her I couldnt do the refund unless she made the claim via ebay and of course she has since left me negative feedback!

I have also emailed her with waht saarzi advised so thank you also for that!

Im having trouble finding where to report a member for extortion- it just keeps sending me in a loop, or do I need to call ebay and speak to them about that and possible feedback removal?

If eBay refuse to remove the negative, make sure you leave a reply. Something like "<buyers username> inspected the item at pickup and still took them away"......or something to that effect that fits into the box. Just make sure it's a professional reply, otherwise it reflects badly on you. Also, make sure you put her username in the feedback reply so everyone else can see who it is. We can't see the buyers name, only you can.
