hi all. i made a dumb mistake.
i wanted to sell 1 item but unfortunately listed my sale with 10 items available. i think ebay automatically filled the box for me because i usually sell 10 items at a time of these rings that i regularly sell.
anyway, someone bought all 10 items and started messaging me straight away asking when i was going to post them. it just so happens that i own 6 of these items so i apologised and said i would sell him 6 and i refunded him money for the other 4.
i am very worried about this buyer though because he responded with "ok i'll take 6 but you can send me all 10 if you want". like i said, i don't have 10, it's sheer fluke that i happen to have 6 (of which i wanted to sell only 1).
i told the guy i would post today. i have just got home from an awful experience in a westfields shopping centre so i didn't get to go to the post office like i planned but that's ok cos i decided i'd just go to the post office at home when i got home and got the kids calmed down. i have come back to more messages from this guy asking why i haven't changed the posted status yet. this rings alarm bells for me. in my experience, people who send messages like this end up demanding a refund or leaving negative feedback or something.
i have now cancelled the transaction and refunded the money through paypal.
now i am worried because i have refunded the money in 2 different transactions. will ebay realise that they don't have to refund the money once the transaction is cancelled?
any help is appreciated please. and yes, i know i'm an idiot 🙂

You say you have cancelled the transaction, do you mean you sent a request to mutually cancel? If you did then I doubt if the buyer will agree so you will end up paying the fvf and probably earn a neg too.

ducka, I am sorry that you have had a bad day.
eBay won't be refunding any money, that's a PayPal thing.
But you need a mutual agreement, court order or other legal resoluti9on process to recind the legally binding contract that you have formed with this buyer. So, I really hope that you have done one of these things if your intent is not to honour this contract.
Whilst I understand your situation and the reasoning behind it, the fear of a red dot on eBay does not make it ok to break the law.

thankyou guys for replying. yes i did put a request to the buyer to see if we could mutually agree to cancel the transaction and happily he has agreed so that is all good. i was more worried about ebay returning money on top of the money i already refunded. the one item i meant to sell was $20 so times that by 10 would have meant $200 refunded by me and a further $200 refunded by ebay. a negative feedback or losing some commission fees to ebay i could have handled (i'd consider it a rap over the knuckles for being so absent minded).
i've learnt my lesson now. always always always double check the listing very closely.
thanks again for your help
