i want to give an item away with purchaser only paying for postage. how do i bill them?

i want to give away an item to the only person who expressed any interest in it.  they couldn't afford both postage and the item price and i'd rather give it to someone who really wanted it rather than just dump at a charity shop.

purchaser has agreed to pay the postage.  how do i go about billing them for the postage related to an unsold item?

i don't want to list the item for a nominal amount because the person who i'd like to take the item, might not get to it first.

i guess that's my question, how do i bill an individual for postage for an unsold item.

thank you for any help you can give me.

You can't invoice someone if the item hasn't sold. What you're probably better off doing is relisting the item as a buy it now with best offer. List the item with a ridiculously high price, like $1,000, with whatever postage you agreed on, then tell your buyer to make an offer of 1c. When they've made the offer, accept it, then you can invoice them. By putting the high price in, it will deter others from jumping in and buying it. You will then only be charged fees on the 1c plus whatever the postage cost is.

If someone else makes an offer before you buyer does, reject it. You don't need to give them a reason.

Or do what twyngwyn said.

Not point in paying fees on postage for no return.

you could reverse the price, relist with free post with buy it now set at the cost of postage.

Remember that ebay and paypal charge fees on postage so make sure you allow for that otherwise it will end up costing you money to send it. For example if the postage is actually $7.50 you need to charge about $9 and packaging costs (if any) to cover it
