Each month less and less people bother to leave feedback.
ebay is more willing to remove feedback now than ever before.
Buyers can only receive positive.
Sellers with terrible feedback still get purchased from.
etc etc etc
It just doesn't seem to be as important as it once was and millions of people happily shop on websites, that have no feedback system, every day.
Has the usefulness of feedback, in its present state, had its run?
Personally I would like it changed to a transaction count for both buyers and sellers.
Buyers would rate a transaction (possibly with a rank out of 10) and the seller would receive an overall satisfaction rating garnered from an average of all rankings.
It would be quick and should be compulsory.
Buyers pages would show the average satisfaction rating left for others.
Buyers could opt out of seeing items in searches from sellers whose rankings fall below a set level and sellers could block buyers who left rankings below their desired level.
The comments can go altogether. Sellers would not rate buyers at all.
What do you think? Has feedback had its run? How would you change it?

The current blocking system also relies on ebay not removing unpaid strikes - and sadly it is just too easy to get an unpaid strike removed.
but the "pest" non-payers would have too many strikes to have removed. Pest non-payers are creatures of habit, they display pattern behaviours. How often have we read on the boards about buyers with tens of false positives. These pests wouldn't bother trying to have their strikes removed.
The system I described would take the fun out of repeat bidding and then not paying. Once the fun has gone they will go away as it would be too much trouble to continue.

a bit like spraying the cat with a water squirter when they do the wrong thing, eventually they modify their behaviour because it is no longer fun for them 🙂

@k1ooo-slr-sales But how would this stop them from doing it to someone else.It just stops them from doing it to those who have them blocked.

I think your ideas have merit.
However, with the ebay system as it currently stands there is no accountability at all for any buyer at all - none - they are protected, whether they be a serial negative giver, or a occasional or serial non payer.
Responsibility for a safe trading place, should not rely on sellers alone. Ebay sets the parameters and needs to improve its own accountability regarding strike removal etc
In addition, if a buyer does not pay for a purchase, there needs to be more accountability for their decision, including visible deterrents.
I actually don't think that most non-payers are "pest" non-payers, I think they are change of mind. I think that the lack of accountability and invisibility of non-payment encourages non-payment for those with buyers remorse.
Not that I want to hold anyone to a sale when they have changed their mind - but my goodness they should make their minds up before pressing buy-it-now or bidding !!!

simple, the blocks would be put on all listings by eBay, with sellers having to "opt out" of having the blocks in place. At the moment, sellers have to put the blocks in place, and many do not.

The only exception would be if they had a genuine reason like say a death in the family but this is not going to happen 3 times now is it.
How about if they're a newbie and come to the boards asking if they should pay by bank deposit into a Chinese account for a TV listed in Germany for 20% of what it's worth with free postage to Australia?
Obviously common sense would be needed.
If he has a genuine reason like i said , The death was just an example. there would be several reasons of exclusion based on circumstances. And like I said its an idea that would need tweeking. Penalties always effect peoples thinking.
And your bit about ebay not doing it. It was there original policy 3 strikes and your out, And if there not paying for there items there not of any use any way and probably need a spell from ebay to make them think. And ebay would make money from them because like i said the funds collected would pay the insertion fees that goes to ebay and then you as a seller get another free listing. so the only person left out is the NPB.
But the whole point was to deter them in the first place not to just kick them. It had a good effect on buyers before it was changed there was no where near as many NPB,s as now.
OH and what the hell is he doing buying a TV from germany and paying to a chinese account anyway that screams stupidity and no i wouldnt pay either. Should he get a strike for not paying. Hard call. More info would be needed. such as does the seller have a history of not delivering.
But yes I would be inclined to still give the strike especially if its not his 3 strike as he wont be suspended at all. Remeber you get 3 before suspention kicks in. And if its his third maybe not give the strike but a fine like $5 to cover costs and maybe 2 week suspention as it means he has already let 2 others down before making such a stupid purchase.
Like i said it would need tweeking. and it would need common sense to prevail. Ebay wouldnt lose there not paying anyway thats why there being given the strikes.
But I doubt to many would get 3 strikes that often I know it use to work and I know If there not paying there of no use.

After thinking about what you said , YES he gets a strike , If he is a newbie it wont effect him as you get 3 chances before your suspention that would only be one and if he is a newbie and already had 2 strikes well he needs a holiday to rethink what the hell he is doing.
Definatly yes.

@k1ooo-slr-sales Buy blocking them from biddiing on everyones item its no different to banning them with no benifit to those they have let down and not much different to my idea other than no finacial penalty. Which is what I was getting at atleast they would have to pay $5 to rejoin ebay after they have had 3 strikes and a holiday.
on 26-04-2013 01:31 AM
non-payers don't pay for their won items, so I don't think they are going to pay a token gold-coin fee or a $5 re-joining fee
