hi All,
I was wondering what effects have sellers noticed in the past while large sporting events are being televised: olympics, commonweath games, soccer world cup etc ?
obviously it depends on what you sell but wondered whether others had noticed more of a downward trend to sales during these times...
thanks

probably none. Considering the time difference, it's all replay anyway. Plus, with iPad, tablets and smartphones, you can still bid on whatever you like without leaving the comfort of your armchair.

Everything affects sales.
A Sunny day affects sales because people are out doing other things.
I find Saturdays are usually slow for sales.
School holidays affect sales.
Public holidays affect sales.
Religious holidays affect sales.
Earthquakes affect sales.
Big terrorist events affect sales.
PLease add to list as you like.

ha ha annie you are very right - i guess its the nature of selling.
and the previous poster also has a point, I didn't think of it in that way...

Saturday is always very slow, lots of familys out playing sport - so far this weekend has been extremely slow so I will put that down to the Olympics.

Somebody had to do it didn't they!
I am spending a lot of time and energy trying to avoid ANYTHING to do with the olympics, not easy here in the UK, and thought at least I would be safe on the Aussie discussion boards :_|

Morriset Mega Market has been slow this weekend and I remember when I used to do all the weekend markets in the Blue Mountains about 6 years ago and before that, the Olympics was always a slow period for sales.
Online sales have been the same though.
And Phorum Junkie, you must be the only person in the world that doesn't like the Olympics.
To me, the Olympics is the be all and end all of sport, give me a choice between 10 gold medals at a world championship or 1 gold medal at an Olympics, I would take the Olympic medal every time.

arb... i was out to lunch today, a party of approx. 20 people and not one had even seen 5 minutes of the olympics!!
not everyone is so sport obessed. I know millions of aussies are, but equally ther are also millions who dont give a toss.

I love a lot of sports which is why I want nothing to do with the olympics.
Today I have been able to watch the F1 grand prix and WI v NZ test cricket.
I am most certainly not alone in my dislike of what has become a travesty of real sport.
To say nothing of the many people who have absolutely no interest in any sport whatsoever.
