the ageist statements may put younger buyers off

I've seen some quite ageist comments on these boards.

I wonder if you older sellers realise that it may put younger buyers off just in the same way you may be put off by someone making ageist comments about people in your age group.

As someone who is under 45 I am not racist (as was assumed to be the case when a poster posted what others saw as racist)

I open the doors for people and appreciate when others do so for me .I say please and thankyou when I should.

I try hard to treat others as I would like to be treated and not make ignorant assumptions about anyone.

Not a good look for sellers to so publicly judge all us younger generation in such an all encompassing  negative way.

Georgia, you are a spring chicken.  If you consider yourself old at 36, how are you going to feel at 56, 66, or 76?   There are posters on the boards of those ages and even older...there is at least one that I know well who is in her 80s.

With barely two generations younger than you, and several generations older than you, you're definitely a "younger" generation.

I'm 37, by the way, and it just goes to show you even those of the same generation view and apply manners differently, as I would never have referred to older posters here as "cranky old grannies" - not the least because I know full well some of them are more liberal and high-spirited than I am.

Haha,  i actually have to laugh at this post, because there was actually a thread where my age was targeted.  Basically I made some comments and someone disagreed and then something along the lines of "you can really tell when the schoolies are out" was the comment made by I guess what would have been an "older" poster.   Cant remember the exact quote and the comments were deleted.    Yes  i think at some point if a younger  poster has different opinions there are older posters here who will crack onto their age and make sly little comments and Ive heard a view before.

Dont think alot of buyers come here and see the posts though and dont think it would influence their decision to buy from a certain poster if they wanted the product.

It seems that mostly sellers post here, which is good in a way. Though, obviously, alot of the regulars are known by eachother and probably make purchases from eachother. So, posting here in a friendly way certainly can help sales. There are alot of helpful people here and I'm sure that the majority of them do it out of goodwill - not as a way of advertising. It's a credit to those people and this forum wouldn't exist without them.

As far as stereotypes go, well, I'm almost certainly one of the younger posters on this board. I do sometimes wonder how old a certain poster is but that doesn't so much reflect my view of them. Yep, had heated arguements in the past with some posters and probably made a few choice words stereotyping someone for this or that. I'm human. We all probably stereotype in some negative way occasionally as it's tough to think perfect thoughts all the time and give people time that they may deserve. Someone's image may give off different vibes to different people.

As far as being old at 36, it's all a matter of perception. Recently I watched a documentary about a young man who was legally executed in prison and was very shaken up by it. I could relate to that man in age (he was the same age as me now, when he died) and how much he had screwed up in his very very short life. My agegroup may be perceived as very young here by forum standards but there are people 10 years younger than me who have achieved more. So, I feel very old because it's as if I'm just starting my life again, yet have lost almost three decades of it by wasting it! So, it's all perspective... even young people can feel old and they're entitled to it. Just as older people can feel extremely youthful.

Treasure your life and make no regrets. Live the life that you want to be at when you die. Don't wait for death to start living your life. That's for young and old, though it's probably younger people who probably haven't realised that yet. It's not easy for some people to realise what their own true happiness is about, which is why they may act rude or whatever... they just haven't found that "place" within them yet.

As this is a selling board, the prevalence of sellers is not surprising. I haven't sold anything under this ID, so I either have the wrong things listed or I don't qualify as advertising. Or I'm too abrasive.

Besides which - define old. Or young. Or in between.

I kind of meant the main "buying/selling/transaction" boards in general, forgetting we're posting on the specific Selling board. Maybe subconsciously I knew, who knows? I normally just click on Trading on eBay and it lists the posts from both boards. Maybe I qualify as advertising as I'm selling under this ID.

Young or old is in your mind. It's just that over time, general society has developed a certain view of what is stereotypically young, old or inbetween.

Soul, just because someone does not know where they are in life does not give them a license to be rude.

I am darned sure my children at 5 were not capable of analysing their place in the universe of life, but they sure as h*ll knew what good manners were.

I really think people (in general, not singling out anyone) spend too much time analysing their thoughts and feelings and not getting on with the business of living and enjoying life.
