I've seen some quite ageist comments on these boards.
I wonder if you older sellers realise that it may put younger buyers off just in the same way you may be put off by someone making ageist comments about people in your age group.
As someone who is under 45 I am not racist (as was assumed to be the case when a poster posted what others saw as racist)
I open the doors for people and appreciate when others do so for me .I say please and thankyou when I should.
I try hard to treat others as I would like to be treated and not make ignorant assumptions about anyone.
Not a good look for sellers to so publicly judge all us younger generation in such an all encompassing negative way.

Age and good manners are not connected.
Last week I was at the shops, along with half of Sydney.
It was bedlam. There were people pushing and shoving and cutting in line.
There were others who were considerate and helpful and patient.
People from both groups came from all age groups.
I'm now entering the realm of "middle age" and have worked in customer service and hospitality since I was 15 and have not noticed a change in manners.
There have always been rude and pushy people around, just as there have always been polite and helpful people.
It makes no difference if you are from the city, country, male, female, old, young or somewhere in the middle, people are people. ๐
Merry Christmas everyone (off to check my pork :))

Hello and Merry Christmas to Everyone,
Sorry I haven't been back until now .I wasn't being rude...just busy getting ready for and enjoying Christmas.I hope that you have all enjoyed your day too.
I agree that people are people .There isn't any one standard 'fit' for any age group, gender, race, religion etc etc.

Yes we are unique.
I was looking at it from a business point of view .I am currently a buyer .
This is a place where sellers and buyers or potential sellers and buyers post and read .If sellers want to maximize sales and CR it may help to be aware how some things they post may read and may affect how other see them?
ie;Once I saw someone here posting what some claimed were rude and racist comments....another poster came in calling them racist and was even prepared to bet that the poster was from generation X,Y,Z.Just as the rude, racist comments may put some off so too may that kind of ageist statement.

The consensus used to be that only about 3% of members even know the boards exist.
I don't think I've ever seen any of my buyers posting here.

Frankly I don't care if a seller is young, old, black, white or yellow, Christian or Calathumpian, racist or not...as long as they have a good selling record and have what I am looking for I am happy to buy from them.
I have seen sellers on the boards who get involved in some heated exchanges with others, but when given a chance have proved to be great sellers and lovely people.

Have to admit, I am pretty clueless as to how old many of the posters here would be. Also needs to be said, I couldn't care less. As to the OP - I seriously doubt it would help or hinder my sales in any way shape or form if someone found out I was 18 or 78, male or female, white or black, etc - sure doesn't cross my mind when I purchase something. Not actually sure if even understand the OP
Not really sure why I have commented, just bored I guess ๐

Hi greencat,
'I seriously doubt it would help or hinder my sales in any way shape or form if someone found out I was 18 or 78, male or female, white or black, etc - sure doesn't cross my mind when I purchase something'.
It's more that if a potential buyer had read posts here and seen an attitude that could be seen as anti whatever that potential buyer is...in relation to age, race, religion, gender ,
that potential buyer could possibly ,as a consequence of what they have read be less likely to purchase from that specific seller. In the same way that sellers can and do add some buyers to their BBL...buyers may think I'm not buying from that seller.

well you didn't try to hard in the OP
Pot Kettle black
what's with guessing how old posters are by what they write???
a younger poster/seller could post ageist discriminatory remarks towards other younger potential buyers without revealing their age
.....how many of the posts you talk about stated their age?
By assuming the age of a poster
(No...., I cannot believe that you know them all..or even a small proportion)
and apportioning the ageist comments you read to older posters then you are yourself are partaking in ageist discrimination
.....however carry on regardless ?:|

Sorry Iza, I just don't see it. As mentioned earlier (straybooks?) only about 3-4% of eBayers even come to these boards. I understand what you are saying, but can not see how your particular 'anti age/race etc' would be any more detrimental to a seller than any other post/rant/complaint on here. Read thru and about 95% of posts will obviously be about a 'numpty' buyer or seller (as this is where we all go to vent). So that could put buyer's off as well - those buyers of the 3-4% that visit of course. JMO
