I am interested in researching what are the biggest sellers on ebay and what the most popular categories are for people living in Australia.

Thinking of selling are you? Doing some brain picking, hey?

I think you'll probably find that it depends on the time of year. Some items sell far better through Winter, other items sell far better in the lead up to Christmas.
If you're sniffing around looking for something to sell, go with something you like and something that people want, as opposed to need. People are usually much happier to part with their money for something they want as opposed to need.

I think the biggest trend for Australian buyers seems to be hitting the Buy it Now button by 'accident'.

I think if folks knew the answer to that, they would be seling them themselves. It would like trying to pick next weeks winning lotto numbers. How long is a piece of string type question.

A work colleagues then 7yo son came up with the answer to the how long is a piece of string question. The answer is, twice as long as it is from the middle to the end. I thought that was genius coming from a 7yo!!

If you're new to eBay and looking for ideas of what to sell, I wouldn't look at items that everyone else is selling. Established sellers will most likely have higher search rankings and lower prices so your profit margins could be very low.
I would look at items that you're confident will sell but where there are currently a limited number of listings. Then research whether you're able to source the products consistently at the right price to make selling viable.

Hi H.
Think the 7 year old accounted for that.
Bleeding little genius.
Must admit there are a number in the supermarket that should never have been allowed to produce.

Hello rahcah05,
If you are researching for the purpose to find the best selling items - and sell them yourself (I mean, who wants to gather a whole heap of stuff, put the time and money into it, list them all - and no one wants to buy them1!)
Well, this is what you need:
*Heaps of designer bags & shoes, they can't be fakes, preferably all the latest designs currently in all the fashion mags
Price must be "reasonable", just a miniscule fraction of their true cost
You'll also find you'll have even more customers if you offer a free postage on top of that
And you must not mind if Ebay gives them the money back if they are not happy - even for non valid reasons, and if your want your item back - you'll have to pay for the postage back. Just so that you can re list it - and repeat the whole process.
Those customers who bom b out on the Ebay's 30day Money Back Guarantee still have another 6 months to get the money back through PP.
As for the bags brands:
LV & Chanel, ditto for shoes - that's all you need!
Oh, maybe a sprinkling of Hermes here and there, with them, you can include a few belts - they'll go like hot cakes!
