What I meant to say at the end is that if Australians want to be environmentally friendly with their book buying, then they should buy books located in Australia where shorter distances are involved in the shipping of their purchases resulting in a reduction in the consumption of resources, like petrol, required.

Yes a lot of Australian booksellers are closing down , to send a 750 gram book to the UK from Australia costs $38.75 yet the books that are coming from the UK to Australia are costing the sellers in the UK less that $5 in postage as Australia Post delivers them for free and who is paying the real price ? the Australia Post users in Australia by continual price increases because over 50 million dollars has been lost by Australia Post from the overseas deliveries coming into Australia in large quantities .
Also from what I have been told , a lot of the used books coming from the UK to Australia are not coming from charities but from paper pulp suppliers that is books that are dumped into bins that is why many of the books are the current editions from top authors and not unsaleable stock from charities .
For example , lots of traveler dump their band new books in the hotels bins and public places and they are retrieved as salvage .
A lot of Australian published books won't be around in the futture unless there are Australian booksellers selling them .

We all keep whinging about the cost of post in Australia for us online sellers located here vs a seller in the UK, but will anyone get onto Today Tonight or A Current Affair and highlight our plea to the masses???
When Hardly Normal CEO Gerry highlighted the GST tax thing, where were we???
There are US states that charge ebay and the big river GST for online sales purchased in their states from local and o/seas sellers, why can't the silly fed govt do the same here???
