Ebay want Driver's Licence details.

I've been an Ebay member since 2005, only buy and sell occasionally.  Recently I wanted to list an item for sale but Ebay sent me a message wanting my Driver's Licence details.  I'm very wary of identity theft and am wondering why I need to provide that information after so many years of being a member without any issues, all my details are still the same as when I first joined so I'm wondering is this something new?

Yes, it is new and it is called Managed Payments.

Managed Payments was announced over a year ago for sellers

Thanks for the reply, a friend directed me to ask my question here as I didn't even know there was a "community page".  Think I'll probably just advertise in my local newspaper, probably easier.

Have you priced an ad in your local paper.   Plus your local paper gets about 10 people and their cat reading them.   Good luck

Not exactly new,  Has been operational for over a year  (phase in), and was announced over 2 years ago.

Note you will also be deemed a new seller by ebay and as such funds from any sales will be on hold for 30 days,  (21 days under the previous system).

It does not matter if your details have not changed since 2005,  ebay is now legally required to obtain certain details from sellers

Thank you so much for this information - probably my fault for not keeping up reading ebay notifications.  All sounds too hard for this old girl so don't think I'll be selling anything now.  Are there changes for buying too?
