Australian purchasing item from USA via eBay and one part of the single box delivery is missing from inside the box rendering the total item unusable
the is not the sellers issue as it has been clearly opened by customs as can be seen from the inner wrapping in the item being torn open
can someone please let me know the process other than contacting the seller (who’s not at fault)

Sorry, but it is the seller's issue. It is their responsibility to ensure you receive the item as described. Regardless of whatever happened to it while in transit, the seller is still 100% liable.
The correct procedure is to open a return request using the reason "Missing parts or pieces". Follow any/all instructions given by eBay and do not close the request until you have achieved a satisfactory resolution.

If it was posted through eBay International Shipping, eBay generally provides seller protection for any
MBG claims... after it reaches the US Hub.
