Payment still 'Pending' after four days?

Hello and Merry Christmas...
I made an auction purchase from an new (16 feedback) Aussie Seller on the 21st Dec.
I paid via PayPal and it showed as Payment Pending.
With similar purchases, the Payment Pending usually last less than 12 hours.
As of 10pm 25th Dec it is still showing as Payment Pending.
The item had no holidays settings visible.
Is this usual?

If you had no funds in your PayPal account, and transactions are funded from your bank account, you have probably spawned an eCheque. They can take 5-10 business days to clear. Your seller should be able to tell you if the payment is an eCheque.
The stupid part is, it's random. I could buy 30 things with no funds in PayPal, with payment coming from my bank account, then 31 could spawn an eCheque.

I am a Seller too and use this to help make purchases.
Because of this I had more than enough in my PayPal account.
I've also made purchases since and they have been as per usual.
An anomoly that I assumed was eBay glitch.

Maybe the new seller has not upgraded their paypal account so has to accept payment rather than it being automatic.

That could be possible.
I've not joined the MP scheme so far.
I've emailed the Seller, with no reply, but there's no hurry as they'll have their Chrissy and New Year stuff keeping them occupied.

Happy New Year all.
Update -
After 10 days payment is still pending.
I emailed the Seller on the 26th of Dec, still no reply.
Seller has sold 4 items since my purchase and has over 30 new listings since the 26th, including several listed today as New Listings.
Any suggestions....

Sounds like it could be as Lyndal said, the seller hasn't upgraded their PayPal account to accept payments. You could try and send another message suggesting they upgrade their account to accept the payments. If that fails, all you can really do is wait for the last ETA on the item and open a not received dispute to get a refund. Hopefully a dispute or 2 from buyers might push the seller into looking at why this is happening.
