Refunds for guest purchase

Hi, I recently purchased a computer on an Ebay store. The computer was "new" from a legitimate store, and the store refund policy on the page states that items are able to be returned within 30 days of purchase, and: "the buyer is responsible for return postage costs. You must return the items in their original packaging and in the same condition as when you received them."

The computer had a second hand cable and did not perform in accordance with the stated specifications (it was very slow, less than half stated battery life and I felt it was not in as new working order). Following a few days trying to sort it out with the store and with the computer manufacturer I returned the item as per the returns policy. The seller is now refusing to provide a full refund. I purchased the item as a guest on Ebay so cannot initiate the returns assistance section from Ebay to help me with this. Can anyone advise how to get Ebay to step in? Any other advice on this matter? thank you.

Friday is maintenance day for eBay so things can get glitchy, try again later or tomorrow then you should get the option to escalate the dispute.

It's very doubtful that you'll get a phonecall from them, the phone lines have been shut down since the beginning of COVID.

This system is sending me mad! I have waited the required time ebay said to wait after they lodged the dispute and now am trying to contact them to say I need them to take steps because the seller is just doing doing nothing. When I try to get them to call me the online system says to try again  during office hours (which it is) ... can anyone help me? It is weeks since this seller took my money and ran!

So, just to clarify - you were able to open a dispute for Not as Described?

I thought that if the seller did not respond to the dispute that it would automatically close in your favour?  Or there should be a button to escalate things after 4 days, but I am not  entirely up to date as I haven't opened a dispute myself for many years.  What about trying a different browser?

Hello again to the eBay brains trust, and thank you for your previous advice. I still remain awaiting any refund from either the seller or eBay. I received an email from eBay on 19 November confirming it would refund the full amount for my purchase because the seller had refused to and they know the item was returned to him. But as of yesterday, still no refund. I then spent hours trying again to resolve it, dealing with multiple different people from eBay (all by text because it seems that is the only way they will deal with me - and yes, I tried multiple times to get a call back but could not, and the link I was emailed from eBay to request a call back did not work...). So right now, the seller has profited $1200 of my money and I have no way it seems to redeem it.... even though he had a return policy and eBay told me they would refund me. Late yesterday I got another random email from eBay telling me that I now have to provide proof that the seller has received the item even though eBay itself has confirmed that the seller has confirmed he has received it. I have gone to the post office and got the signature proof of delivery and am about to send it to eBay but I am just really scared they are going to screw me again because that is all that I have experienced so far... For those of you who use and are familiar with this appalling process, do you have any better options for me? I have actually lost my job and am desperate for this money to be returned to me and just can't get any proper assistance let alone get my money back. I would really appreciate any help anyone can point me to. thanks again

Sorry to hear this. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Part of the issue is that you didn't open a case - from what I gather, you just sent it back without involving ebay from the start and notifying them that there was a problem. However, you can open a dispute in Paypal as you have 180 days.

Alternatively, if you funded via credit card, make contact with them.

First go via Paypal, then credit card.
