A seller is selling computer drives that are fake. I returned 2 drives and the postal service says they were received. eBay closed the case and the seller has not refunded the purchase price. How do i get eBay to do its job? This is ludicrous! If buyers don't actually have protections against frauds, then, whats the point of eBay?

Your seller is registered overseas, so I find it rather weird that Ebay gave you a label. Was the postage address within Australia or overseas?

Interesting that half an hour after I start this conversation I get a response from ebay saying I have been sent a full refund. Coincidence? Maybe. What really bugs me is that this seller continues to operate on ebay. What checks/penalties are being imposed on unscrupulous sellers? Or, is it the case that things "happen" only if buyers pursue sellers?

The checks and balances for buyers is to actually look at a sellers feedback and never purchase from those with low scores and problematic feedback. I'm not a big fan of buying electronics anyway from many of the Chinese sellers as there is a lot of junk out there and items that are just not up to our high standards. Better to buy from an Aussie seller (not on Ebay) and at least you'll get a proper warranty.

In Australia. This system is getting dodgy.

Ebay has had bad sellers and bad buyers since it started. As much as buyers complain about sellers, sellers have also had a bad time with some really awful buyers.
If you're going to keep buying junk from random Chinese sellers with awful feedback, then you only have yourself to blame for the "dodgy" situation. Buyers also need to take responsibility for their own actions when they insist on buying "cheap" from overseas.
