If I use 'click and collect' why am I still being charged postage?

Have I assumed wrongly that using click and collect should cancel any delivery fees? Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

@jenjenk6,

As enigmabear and wideworldofstamps have said, eBay's version of Click & Collect is not the same as the general Click & Collect that is offered by shops and businesses outside eBay. eBay have hijacked the term for their own use, and STILL say ❝To find items available for Click & Collect, select the Free Click & Collect filter on the search results page❞ and thereby created enough confusion to curdle a cocktail. Simply put, Click & Collect does not mean that there's no postage cost.

You can read eBay's help page on Buying with Click & Collect; I'll just quote the most relevant bit here as well, slightly reworded to combine the common points for collecting from either Woolworths and Parcelpoint, the two most common collection options:

❝If you're collecting from Woolworths/Parcelpoint, the seller will post your item to your chosen store/location – allow up to five business days for delivery. You'll get an email or text when your item has arrived in store, with a collection code which you'll need to bring with you.

You must collect with seven (7) days.

Click & Collect from Woolworths

Here are a few things to keep in mind when using Click & Collect from Woolworths:

  • Your parcel can only be collected from your selected Woolworths store.
  • Someone else can collect your parcel on your behalf, as long as they have your collection code.

Click & Collect from ParcelPoint

Here are a few things to keep in mind when using Click & Collect from ParcelPoint:

  • Your parcel can only be collected from your selected ParcelPoint location.
  • You'll need to bring both your collection code and photo ID.
  • You can arrange for someone else to collect your parcel by contacting ParcelPoint Customer Support.❞

As you can see, the seller still has to post your item. That is why you pay postage (except where the seller is offering "postage included" (known as Free Postage on eBay) in the item price).

Some buyers report never having received the collection code, so it is well worth your keeping an eye on your eBay account, to see by the tracking number or any other indication when your item has arrived at the collection point. If you have any problems, contact eBay and explain that you haven't received the collection code. (The seller can't help with this, because the seller does not generate the collection code.)
