Is Ebay going to put provisions in place for QLD buyers for proof of age to purchase knives etc.

Currently Qld laws don't allow the sale of knives etc to people under the age of 18. Ebays answer to this is to block every person living in Qld from purchasing or bidding on these items regardless of age. So is Ebay going to allow people to prove their age therefore allowing those who are legally allowed to purchase these items to do so, has anyone in Qld been able to get this ban lifted from their account.

people are wary of providing ID documents to websites that might be on scammers target lists . . . including eBay.

The proof of age ID on eBay would not prevent under-age people from accessing sibling/parent eBay accounts to bid/buy restricted items.

Think about it, an over 18 person provides proof of age, followed by a tech savvy under-18 teen from the same household using that account to buy a knife, blade or collectable bayonet.

eBay understand how difficult enforcing age verification would be . . . so they just geo-block ALL those who have a Queensland address on their account.  To put in place restrictions that are open to being circumvented would open up eBay to legal action from the Queensland authorities.

If it's a genuine answer your after, you'd be best served asking eBay. Not one person here can tell you what eBay intends to do - ever. So any reply would be guesswork.

If that's what you're after, my best guess is.... NO.

Probably not, as they are under no obligation to permit the sale of any item to anyone, age dependent or not.

After all  Coles has just removed all knives from sale, Australia Wide.

are you wanting eBay to verify the age of Queensland account holders just once, or every time a knife/blade item is bid on?

Verifying ID at time of initial bid might stop some under-18s from using sibling accounts, but not the tech savvy under-18s, as they would find the verification documents on a computer/phone and make accessible copies for their own future use.

If every item, verification would need to be at time of bidding to prevent auctions being interfered with by bidders not willing to provide ID at payment.

It's a mess, but it does stop under-18s from buying restricted items on eBay.

Ask eBay

Don't try to buy stuff on eBay you know you are not permitted to

Buy from elsewhere

Many options

No legitimate reason anyone of any age anywhere *has* to buy knives off eBay sellers only
