Seller not responding - do I still have to pay?

I committed to purchase an item, however I have a couple of issues:

1) the seller is not responding to my questions, one being a request for the serial numebr so I can ensure the item is not stolen.

2) their bank account details for the transfer seemed incomplete/around the wronga way

3) at checkout, the checkout page said "covered by eBay Buyer Protection Program" however everything I've since read says that a bank transfer is not covered - you're on your own!

4) they are only charging $8.95 postage - it's for a MacBook... this is not enough postage to cover the size of the item let alone any insurance.

I actually googled the sellers name and suburb and got a hit on a deceased person by the same name in the same suburb of Melbourne...

It smells super fishy.

I am going to request that they allow me to pay via paypal and I'll be happy to pay the stupid fee... but if I don't get a response or they say no, am I within my rights to back out??

Thanks.

Hold onto your money.  contact ebay.

Seller has 0 FB for last 12 months. But sells 6 of these in the last couple of days,  @ $2500  +  $8.95 of course.

Has also sold a number of other High $  IT items over the last few days.

Combined with no PP  =  Danger

Probably a hijacked eBay account.

Don't pay anything.

scam  If it sounds to good to be true then it generally is.

Also the time to ask questions is BEFORE you purchase not after.

Never pay with bank deposit unless you can afford to lose the money as there is NO protection with bank transfer.
