Why did eBay accept a bid from another person after the item ends time had expired?

 Item end time was listed as 20:20 AEDST. The winning bid was accepted at 20:20:49!

I'm pretty sure the question is no longer relevant some 11 years after being asked... and your answer doesn't address the historical issue in any way.
