Are there Phantom buyers on Ebay???

Have you ever bidded on an item and a member has bidded against you making the sale go up in price higher and higher... until you either stop bidding or you win the auction?

I have been wondering if Ebay purposely set up Phantom buyers to increase their profits in the buying and selling of auctions.

Think about it. A typical example is a member that bids against you, they win the auction but never pay up. Therefore say if it was a phantom buyer, Ebay then deducts the sales fee but keeps the success fee. Maybe a way to make more money from people?

This is my theory anyhow. I feel like this is something people should consider..

Also, funny how you can't view a bidders account and history but you can with the seller??? Seems a bit dodgey to me.

Thoughts?

So says the defence, but prosecution maintains that eyewitness testimony from a highly trained citizen, coupled with photographic proof to support said testimony, is direct evidence.

a) the eyewitness is either a ghost or a ninja -  a trained assassin! , hardly what the bench would consider credible witnesses

b) made even harder if the judge doesn't believe in ghosts

how bout that, eh?

bet you never thought of that!

c) the photographic evidence was photoshopped!

Re: Are there Phantom buyers on Ebay???

Bloody oath there are,

My wife was watching and bidding on a hand bag, it got sold to a person with 0 feedback and only has bid twice, nothing sus so far we all have to start somewhere.

A week later suprise suprise the same handbag pops up for a higher opening bid and after some one had placed a bid, guess who places a bid ,

reported it to ebay, but as with anything that may cost ebay to loose a few cents, THEY DONT GIVE A FRIED FART!

PPL who so blatantly do this should be barred, if only for their stupitity, at least get a few different friends to do the shill bidding.....

Hahaha thank you, It was just a very light hearted thought, not like I'm seriously looking into this as something that could be proven.

ahhhh, you weren't serious at all.  What you need to do is sign off your 'light hearted' questions with "SurelyTSFE" which means "Surely too serious for ebay".  This way, everyone who frequents these boards will know you are only kidding and respond accordingly.  Try it    Smiley Wink
