Auction houses v eBay

In the past there was a time a person could buy numismatic items (notes and coins) from an auction house and make a little reselling on eBay.
Moving to the present.
I have just spent a few days in online coin and note auctions and what is leaping of the pages is that buyer in auction houses seem willing to spend more to buy items from the auction houses than they get the exact same item from eBay. In fact it now seems possible to buy off eBay and turn a profit in some auction houses; those that do not charge a seller commission.
Personally i think this reflect buyers poor perception of eBay as unreliable in this area.
There is issues surrounding subjective grading of items but when it comes to items in packaging where there is no need for grading then we see a clear bias towards buying from the auction houses and this can only be reconciled by considering a distrust in the eBay platform.
It is funny how the pendulum has swung.
