Bid retractions over the top?

Hi all, I just won an item from one of my regular sellers and happened to notice a bid retraction on it.

When I looked furthur into the bidder's activities I saw he/she had 157 retractions in 30 days and a staggering 822 in 6 months.

Is it just me or is that way over the top for retractions?????

Bid retractions over the top?

Sorry, I just did a double take. Then another.

Then I checked what I was drinking (hey, it's Christmas 🙂 )

How is that even possible??

Isn't bid retractions something eBay is meant to keep an eye on?????

I'd be interested to know if all those retractions were with a select number of sellers.

Bid retractions over the top?

Hi Amber, yep I'm still picking myself off the floor................original.gif

Here's a few more details....  Total bids 1491, items bid on  562 and bid activity with my seller 8%.

He's staggered by it as well, but doesn't know how many retractions she's had with him, he's having a look at his completed listings when he gets a chance.

I reckon it's a dirty way to bid, obvoiusly she's using the retractions to find out what other bidder's maximum is.

Hopefully she'll get reported and slapped for doing it - I don't think I can do anything from my side as a bidder, I'm guessing it has to come from the seller, maybe a wiser head than mine has the answer to that.

I'm not 100% sure if it's only a seller who can report a bidder for retractions, but since they're generally the only ones who know the ID, they're in the best position to.

Of course, if they had won an auction you were participating in, you'd be able to see their ID straight away, but their retractions make that a bit hard, I suspect.

Since you're in communication with the seller, there's probably no harm in suggesting it.

Makes a mockery of the stern warnings given if you contemplate a bid retraction!

eBay might look into their account details, if you contacted them regarding your item's bidding and mentioned their bid retraction number. As to why they do it, that is only speculation 😞 but a distinct possibility.

I have never seen anything like that in ten years...wow.

Bid retractions over the top?

Thanks DG, I've emailed my seller pointing out to him the possibility of his other bidders suspecting shill-bidding and suggested putting her on his BBL and/or reporting her.

The bidder's been around since 2009, so you'd have to wonder how many retractions she's amassed in 4 years........

Got to go to typing school Amber, your post wasn't there when I started........................sigh.

I'll take that advice on board and try it out. (wonders if eBay really cares............)

Digi's wasn't there when I was typing 🙂

eBay may not do anything, but then at least you'll know you've brought it to their attention, as the seller probably will 🙂

I will be completely blunt here. There is no way your seller would not have noticed this, mainly because each time there is a bid retraction, he would receive an email - each and every time. 8% would be like almost 100 ... something is very suss about this to tell you the truth. But that is JMO.

Bid retractions over the top?

Hi tstore. he's told me he hasn't seen any emails about retractions, perhaps he has them on ignore or something.

I had a quick flick through some of his completed listings and didn't see any other retractions from the bidder, though I must admit I only looked at a few of them .

He's given me the buyers ID and strangely I didn't spot any other retractions on their bidding, though again I didn't go through the whole lot. (and there was a lot over the last 30 days)

Maybe it's a glitch and the buyer doesn't have that many retractions at all.

I'll give it a day or so and recheck their retraction totals.
