This is something I have thought of as I have an adult son who has brain damage .I am his carer.
He has asked if I could help him open up an account here to buy things.I have said that between State Trustees and myself we can help him buy things from here when needed (ie;using my account).
He is fortunate to have a carer but I know that many don't have that and there is always the possibility that he could get a friend to help him set up an account without either myself or State Trustees knowledge.
To sellers he just would be a faceless buyer and there could be all sorts of problems for the seller and himself. He may well be awarded the top prize for numptiness .He would not be meaning to be difficult ...he would however need a lot of things explained...though would most likely never tell anyone that himself.
The boards kind of open up my eyes up even more to those possibilities .
Has anyone else faced similar issues or thought about them?

yes...it is a worrying thing not just for on here but also in shops....it is not necessarily obvious if someone has a disability... if someone has a disability it does not mean that they will always have a carer with them....it would be so easy for the shopping mall predators to sign someone up for a gym membership or similar type thing........has anyone ever been asked if they have a trustee or they manage their own money?........ I haven't.

I have nothing for or against anyone in this thread, but I read this thread through a couple of times before there were any posts that disappeared, and just for the record, the quote bolded in post #10 was authored by the OP.
The post containing that quote has disappeared, so I'm kinda confused as to why the OP insists there are no posts missing, as well as that they didn't SR any.
I don't particularly care either way; I actually interpreted that post quite differently to bump, but the truth is the truth.

No I haven't either. A dodgy mobile phone comp had a rep (with a bottle of spirits in hand) sign my son and his friend up.Told them it was related to one of the 2 main companies and that he would 'fix it' so they didn't pay.Lots of drama and involvement of the TIO there . State trustees weren't pro active at all so I handled that.

I have checked my emails..what Bump was looking for is in there.

If communication is able to be received both ways (from you to him and him to you), why not just ask him to tell you if there is something he wants to buy from online/eBay? When you're together, you can both log on using your account and let him show you what he wants. If it fits his price range, he can buy it. He wouldn't necessarily need his own account.
I think this is a great idea. Good suggestion

That makes sense, couldn't for the life of me figure out where that quote came from because I was sure no posts had been removed.

I agree. And if he puts it in a wish list you could also do a bit of research and find cheaper alternatives for the same product just to protect his finances a little more too. . .

Happy New Year and
Thankyou everyone, Sorry I am not up for saying much this morning.
Thanks for the apology Foxy.
Given all that was previously said it did kind of have more impact.I can't speak for other but when I say be careful , I do it because I am concerned about people...that includes you ๐
He does have his own account into which some spending money goes.I can add more accounts to my paypal can't I ? Though it being in a different name may be an issue I would think ?
