This is something I have thought of as I have an adult son who has brain damage .I am his carer.
He has asked if I could help him open up an account here to buy things.I have said that between State Trustees and myself we can help him buy things from here when needed (ie;using my account).
He is fortunate to have a carer but I know that many don't have that and there is always the possibility that he could get a friend to help him set up an account without either myself or State Trustees knowledge.
To sellers he just would be a faceless buyer and there could be all sorts of problems for the seller and himself. He may well be awarded the top prize for numptiness .He would not be meaning to be difficult ...he would however need a lot of things explained...though would most likely never tell anyone that himself.
The boards kind of open up my eyes up even more to those possibilities .
Has anyone else faced similar issues or thought about them?

Bump, I am a mother of 4 from 23 down to 8.
With my 23 yr old I started having grand mal seizures during the pregnancy.
At 18 months of age he had a 50 min febrile convulsion ...full on grand mal seizure all of that time.
I am and will forever be his carer. He will never be who he could have been.
People take advantage of him he will spend his allocated spending money on drinks for others ....if only he is allowed to be in their company.
He gets called stupid and so many other things....he looks 'normal' so to speak so most people wouldn't realise.
He has spoken to people's GF's and he and we have had death treats ..lots of stuff.
In a B&M he will be treated kindly I suppose and if he doesn't pay he doesn't get the goods.

He did ask and I have been thinking about it...though the potential risk and how he could be treated is frightening...and it comes back on my whole family.

Iza, if your son is under the care of the State Trustees, surely they would have to give the OK for an ebay account? An depending on the degree of disability...is he capable of actually handling the account and understanding the rules?
You are the only one in the position to know these things.

Iza. The role of a carer is to do just that. You need to care for your boy & I am sure you do it well
eBay or any other store will need your assistance when your son would like to purchase something
Really no different to any child who would like to buy something
As to him being treated any differently on-line. How would anyone know if he had any special intellectual problems? You would have to make sure he purchases what he wants and/or needs & make sure that he pays
I would suggest you open another ID just for him but in your name so that you can monitor it
Simple really

Bump, I am sorry for your experiences.
I will not suggest that that is not the truth.
I only told my story because it was more than hinted that I wasn't telling the truth.
I don't know what you are referring to re the rest.
I don't have a problem with anyone
Thanks everyone who offered help re the OP
Happy New Year

Anyway it doesn't change my opinion of the reason for this thread.
You are posting on another thread and being critical of the behaviour of at least one poster on that thread but instead of saying it there you started this thread to try to hide your opinions behind the title of this thread.
I think I know what you are talking about.
If it is what I think .I have watched how things began and could kind of predict what could happen ...I felt concerned for everyone .
I also though that could so easily happen to my son or his friends who aren't under a Trustee (though probably should be).
btw
Trustees don't always do what they should nor does being on an order stop someone signing things they are not legally permitted to.Half the time they don't or won't comprehend that they are not legally permitted to and some places do not ask them .
