farked if I know but it certainly works for some stores.
Padi, it is a "loss leader"...do you understand what it is?
Basically a store sells something at a loss in the hopes that it will attract customers who will buy other items that will recoup that loss and give plenty more profit. It is usually a cheaper item, so not a great amount to lose.

Looks like they are making a loss on that one Joe but are trying to make up for the loss with this one.. 141704414380
Something you can get for less than $2... but they have a price of $102.87 on it !.

they increase the item price when they are almost out of stock so no one will buy, therefore keeping the listings sales history and best match positioning alive. I do it myself on a couple of items.
You'll find when they get more stock in they will reduce the price back down to the 2.87 or whatever it is.

Read post #21 Joe.....that will explain what a loss leader is.

i have read it , but i also read post 23 , that would put me off in a flash

That is exactly what it is supposed to do Joe.....they don't want to run out of the item and lose their history and best match position.
Stop trying to second guess why a seller prices something very low....just be grateful you got it for that price.

well arnt you guessing
if you think selling something for old mobile phones in a brakes shop so that i would go back and then selling something 50 times the price would get me excited, [ it has not worked ]
this is the only product out of 70.000 they have listed that must loose money something for an old mobile phone , its simple the answere , they are truing to get rid of them because they are just about obselite , so they are selling them cheap for a $1 . but because most of there stock comes with free postage they have not calculated the total cost price ala stamo and fees .

Oh for heavens sake.....so the item is just about obsolete. You wanted one, so there are probably others who want one too.
Does it really matter to you if the seller is losing money? Does it matter why they are losing money?
Just be happy that you have your item at a good price.
You might want to check out the tinfoil hat listings Joe.
