I won the bidding on a chainsaw in a bit of a hurry, then I heard about dangerous fake copies made in China.
How will I tell and what can I do if it arrives and is nit the genuine article?

just wait now until your item arrives. Did the Seller have good feedback for sales in the last year??
if it is not genuine, then you will first have to get an official letter from a distributor of the genuine ones.. and then return the item to the address paypal give you, with full tracking, at your own expense.
however, it is almost impossible to get such a official letter because the distributors are sick and tired of buyers getting cheap copies from Asia on eBay !!
if it looks too good to be true . there's usually a reason for that, and that reason is quite often.... scam.
goodluck, hope it turns out OK for you

New Chainsaws in that make and model are around $1300 - $1600. The one you have bought is just over $300 and coming from Singapore.
I am no expert but the ad for the Chainsaw is very different from their previous ads for Headphones - both in layout and tone - also previous sales came from Malaysia - Small seller - so might be a hijacked account.
Also don't take any notice of the 12 month Warranty guarantee - it won't exist.
Just noticed that the listing is not in their completed Sales list. Check to see if it is still in yourwatch/purchase list. It might have been removed.
If you have paid by Paypal then you are covered for non-delivery or Not as Described - but you will have to return the item for a SNAD Claim. Don't let it go past 45 days claim period - no matter what the Seller says.
If you need any more help further down the line come back to the Boards.
Good Luck.

If you were after a genuine stihl product then you should have gone to a B & M store where you would have received the genuine saw with warranty.Stihl is a quality product so if get one at a cheap price then it is definately cheaply made so my guess is that you have just bought a fake chainsaw.

100% SCAM - A fraudulent listing for a non existant item.
If you've already paid, log on to Paypal and see if you're able to cancel your payment.
If you can't, open a Dispute NOW and escalate to a claim as soon as the system allows.
These fraudulent listings are reported to eBay constantly with eBay doing very little about it..
This is how it ends up:
