Hi All, Im really frustrated with a seller and Ebay atm, Wondering if anyone else has come across this and how it worked out. I wanted an item that description stated Postage at buyers expence, I also contacted seller to make sure he would post. he said no problem. I won the item, $120, Postage was $30, Yep happpy at that, Then seller demands I pay by Bank Account as paypal is to expensive, I said I want paypal and will pay the fees if need be. he refused so I called Ebay, They said yep will contact him and tell him he must follow rules. Then I get an invoice for $120 item, $30 extra for postage and EXTRA FEE for Paypal of $150. Whats the go? If I want the item am I expected to either pay the extra or just let the clock go? What are your thoughts etc? Thanks

Unable to access contact information
Unfortunately, you are unable to access the contact information you requested. This can be due to a number of reasons:
1. To better protect the privacy of eBay users, you can only request contact information for eBay users who are involved in your recent, successful transactions. Examples are:
|
2. The item number entered is not associated with the User ID that was entered. View the item you entered and make sure the item number and User ID you entered are correct.
3. The item number you entered is no longer available. Contact information is only available while the item is accessible on eBay.
4. The user you are requesting contact information for is an International user. Due to International laws, contact information for International users may be limited.
If you would like to contact this user, you can send a message via eBay's email forwarding system by clicking on their User ID.

Well, they can't make the seller re-invoice you and remove the surcharge, just as they can't physically make the seller send the item if you pay for it, they can only issue consequences if the seller breaches policy in this way (whether or not the do, or will, is the million dollar question no one here can answer, unfortunately. The best I can say is 'sometimes').
I wouldn't be paying (just personally, even if the seller had a change of heart and accepted PayPal at the original price, if they are that ridiculous - the PayPal fee on a $150 payment would be less $6.00 - they wouldn't get any of my money), so at this stage I would report them for breaching eBay policy and attempting to add a PayPal surcharge, and then - if one is opened - ignore any unpaid item reminders / disputes (be sure to appeal the strike that's issued, eBay should remove it in this case without question).

Hi gras,
Looks like both you and the seller got yourselves in a bit of a pickle with this transaction .......
As per the rules a seller is not allowed to refuse or add Pay Pal charges to a sale, but since you already reported the seller for not wanting to accept Pay Pal to begin with, the seller is obviously not going to be very cooperative anymore and has now added a ridiculous extra amount as Pay Pal charges to the invoice.
Of course this is against the rules as well, but you suggested this action to the seller yourself, so what are you going to do now as the whole transaction looks like it is only going to go south from this point onwards ..........
Your best bet is to ask the seller if this ridiculous amount is a typo - if the seller replies that it isn't just ask him nicely if he can send you a cancellation request.
Of course there's no guarantee the seller wants to go down that road either, but it is worth a try to salvage this transaction in a somewhat decent manner ........

I certainly wouldn't be requesting a cancellation request. Let the seller lose his fees. He wants to be a jerk over a couple of bucks, let him lose more than that in fees.

What you should have done is paid with Paypal as soon as the auction finished as presumably the invoice had $30 delivery on it. The seller would then have either had to send you the item or refund you and would have ended up in trouble if you reported them as ebay would almost certainly have given them a defect as they would count it as being out of stock.
I would pay nothing now and if they have the cheek to open an unpaid item dispute I would appeal any strike. It is actually against Paypal rules to charge buyers extra for fees so you could try reporting them to Paypal too.

This is how I read the ops post:
Item was listed as pick up only.
Buyer wanted postage - seller was happy to oblige but wanted payment to Bank account only - not Pay Pal (Pay Pal too expensive according to seller).
Buyer insisted on Pay Pal; offered to pay Pay Pal fees and reported the seller for not facilitating payment with Pay Pal.
Seller got rapped over the knuckles by E-Bay or Pay Pal (whichever I don't know) and then added ridiculous Pay Pal charges to the invoice
In my advice I was simply looking for a way to still make both buyer and seller sort of happy and have a somewhat decent outcome for both of them, but this is not going to happen if there is going to be advice of more reporting and stubborness on all sides.
What gives ...........

Sellers who stuff you around are a red flag not to deal with them. Dont send any money, even if a transaction goes ahead you have nil chance of co operation if something goes wrong.
I would do nothing, and appeal any unpaid item they may recieve. I would not be putting my dollars on the line trying to prove a point or attempting to defect them.
No one can force a seller to physically send anything, or for an iten to be in great condition.

Close this is the desrciption exacly (
Selling a very nice old mantle clock , case is in good condition and the works are made in Germany and have been completely reconditioned and includes new bush this would be a great old piece to be displayed in any home. postage will be advised after the sale due to the packaging etc but a rough cost could be made as the weight would be around 3 lb and post code is 3212 This clock has a beautiful chime which is Westminster ) ta
