If you’re thinking about buying a car steer well clear of Holden.
My daughter bought a Holden 4 X 4 . It’s done less than 250,000 km. Its been serviced as per the schedule like clockwork.
To date it as blown 4 heads, and put a con-rod through the block, all of which happened after it just went outside of its 150 km warranty period. Today she noticed oil on the ground. Took back to where she had it serviced a week ago. You guessed I. A cracked head.
I’ve been driving for over 40 years and never seen or heard of this happening.
Holden's attitude. S..t happens.

That's not a Holden. That's a quad lemon.

Not saying she didn't get a lemon, but....
250,000 kms is about the life of any car. How old is it?
Sounds like she 'rode it hard' in my book

Isn't there something about machining the head prior to replacing gaskets?
Perhaps, to save money and/or dodgy mechanics, this has not been done.

That's what I was thinking too Stawka. 250,000 is a lot of Ks.

She drives for a living but not in his car. Outback Tour Guide. Has a heavy vehicle licence.
Is positively **bleep** when it comes to her licence and servicing. In any event the car has done less than 40,000 km in the 18 months since the rebuilt motor was put in after the con-rod broke.

Properly maintained, any vehicle should give trouble free motoring up to 500,000 which is the milage when taxi’s are usually traded in.
I have a Honda Accord as a second care. 30 years old. Over 500,000 the clock, The motor, has been rebuilt once. It has never let us down.
Owned a Toyota Hiace van 2.8 diesel. Sold it when I retired. Had 400,000 on the clock. Never broke down once.
Oh and as for the servicing and repair to the Holden, all work done by authorised Holden dealers.
It is a lemon. First and last Holden this family will ever buy.

Holden - just keep on going........sounds like a lemon, but not really the fault of the manufacturer, more the ex owner(s) not caring for the vehicle, the way the Holden should be cared for,
they are an icon....c'mon KINGSWOOD COUNTRY...

Has the servicing and repairs been done by the same dealers? It is possible that improper repairs added to the problem. Was it taken elsewhere for a second opinion after persistent issues? Interested in whether it might be the car/and the maintenance staff.

The first repair was done by the dealer who regularly serviced the car.
As the second blew 5 months later, it was covered under warranty so fixed by the same repairer.
As the third one blew 2 months later. Still under warranty same repair
The rod went 3 months later. This time the dealer and Holden refused liability. That is wouldn’t accept that must have been something wrong that they were missing. Could have pressed the matter further, but the legal costs would have been more than the care was worth. So decided to send it to specialist engine rebuilder, who I knew had a solid reputation. He did the rebuild on the Honda.
Now 18 months later the head goes again.
It's not servicing. All book services done on as per the schedule and on time.
It not the way it was being driven. The second head blew when she was stationary at the lights in idle. The con-rod went whilst cruising at 100 km.
Like I said it’s a lemon.
