Don't like giving -FB. But did.

Hi,

I'm being requested by this seller to "work something out"

Probably eventually requesting to revise my -FB.

If some sellers want to take a calculated risk of listing stock they don't have (whatever the reason - you figure it out ;)).

Then surely the they must accept the consequences of getting -FB if they can't *supply* after they've been paid.

The reason I think that the -FB should stick is because, sellers should really feel discourage on taking this *risk*.

Same seller de-listed Buy-it-Now items with stock of ~ 25 with one sold - What is the buyer (me) suppose to think? Someone walked in and bought 24 of these items at once?

Any excuses they provide, are irrelevant and unverifiable claims of *truth* (i.e. "Sorry, Meteor landed on your package.").

And buyers shouldn't have to contact a seller to check whether they actually have it to sell (which I did for the another listing mentioned above *sigh*) its really quite tiresome "Ooh i like that..let me check if he *actually* has it".

What makes it worse, instead of straight up receiving a refund, instead I was offered a similar but vastly different (construction) and inferior product that is also listed but way cheaper (inferior) - I wonder if this constitutes of an outside of ebay sale? And there was no mention of if or how and when I would receive the difference - would that be covered by paypal?

A neutral FB would have been given if:

1) I received a refund & didn't have to ask for it. (No you keep it - my fault for not realising you didn't have it in stock?)

I was perplexed as to why another other than a refund would be expected (by me).

2) I wasn't offered an alternate inferior product. (reason for #1?)

What do you think.

BTW this is my 1st -FB.

Ok then.

I'm not sure about the offer of a different product listed at a different price elsewhere - as some kind of substitution - I doubt thats even allowed is it? Would this constitute an outside of ebay sale? I couldn't find anything on it.

I was quite perplexed by it and having to actually ask for the refund.

Yes, leave the NEG and ignore them.  If you also sell, make sure you put this person on your BBL so they cannot buy from you.

When  a seller has a large inventory and a retail outlet, such as this seller has, one of the hardest thing to do is to control inventory and unfortunately at times sellers may find themselves in the position of accidentally listing something on ebay which they have sold out of.

Yes that could happen and the seller didn't have time to remove the listing particularly during the busy Christmas period.

No that is not an out of ebay sale. The seller made a mistake and was trying to work out a way to rectify it for you. You could have replied with no you would rather a refund or yes that would be fine but as it is a cheaper product you would like the difference refunded.

The sellers feedback doesn't indicate this happens on a regular basis. Sounds like they had a problem with their inventory control which can easily happen to any large seller.

Compared to another common practice...

Sorry that doesn't seem - logical

Compared to:
1) No fuss refund

2) Then: provide link to the listing of the other (inferior) product.

3) Begin the process again (And choose not to buy it).

That flows better don't you think? Anyhow it seems a muddled and potentially bad situation could occur if a problem (dispute) occurs with *substituted* item, so I wont take you're word for it and I would suggest others don't either.

Perhaps the "rectification" was orientated in favor of the other direction. I see what you mean then. ๐Ÿ™‚

Why ask if you don't want the answer.

Admittedly, the seller probably knew they had run out of stock, but didn't end the listing because they would lose their ranking in 'best' match searches.

Which shouldn't matter as only a mug would search that way.

As far as delisting an item with supposedly 24 available - their choice. There was obviously a problem. Are you suggesting they should have kept the listing active?

If you've changed your ID because you don't want the seller to be able to find you you're out of luck because your ID is in his feedback and in his " Sold Items " list and he can find out what your previous ID was anyway.

No. The listing should've stayed, so 24 people could click "Buy Now" for non-existent stock. Like I almost did.

Nevermind. You be careful on eBay - You have me worried. ๐Ÿ™‚
