So I’m just wondering if this is a sales boosting tactic as I’m completely confused. A store I’ve bought a couple of refurbished iPads from in the past (they have very good feedback).. I was perusing their listings as looking to buy a Mac book.. they have many listings for computers worth only a few hundred for 10k plus. I thought it was a mistake so messaged them & each time they would reply saying “sorry this item is no longer available” can someone explain what’s going on here

"sorry this item is no longer available" would indicate to me that... wait for it... this item is no longer available.
The high price would be a place holder for when they have new stock.

Well, the seller has already told you (more than once going by what you said)
And you don't believe them
So *shrug*

As already said, the listings are place holders - waiting for stock.
They can't put the real price cos they don't want to sell what they don't have.
I believe it's allowed, but I would have to hunt it down
edit: Not so hard after all, but lookee what I found (if that's what they're doing)
To help avoid confusion for buyers, want ads, place holders, or offers to trade can’t be listed on our site.
A listing must offer either a physical item, which includes digitally delivered goods, or a service for sale. Want ads, place holders, or offers to trade are not allowed.
