Sent query to Ebay  hoping for an explanation....  "Hard to understand why Ebay allows outrageous postage costs in USA....I received a 4kg item for $42 AUD but was quoted $100 for 2small 6cm by 4cm salt and pepper shakers and when questioned seller stated it was what Ebay quoted... when asked dimensions and weight no reply..... so was the seller ripping of the buyer ?? Please advise how Ebay is monitoring the situation and what action is taken by Ebay to ensure fair quotes ?

Seems like seller is hoping for a sale and getting huge profit  in return....  and seems like more and more people are jumping on the bandwagon...  how things have changed for the worse since the Covid outbreak   !!!!

Good day, eh?    😄   Canadian eBay user here.

Now however did I guess? 🤔

G'day right back.

For what it’s worth, I came to the Aussie community boards because we Canadians are seeing several posts on our boards about eIS-forwarded items getting delayed at the hub or either dead-ending at the hub or getting rejected in the customs pre-clearance process.  I was wondering if there were similar posts here but so far I haven’t found any.  I suspect Aussies don’t buy as much from the Yanks as Canucks do 😁

I suspect you are right.

I haven't bought from US in years. Well, not on ebay anyway. I recently bought something on another website and nearly had a fit when the confirmation email was sent and I discovered it was in US dollars. (It didn't say that anywhere on the sales site 😲). I complained bitterly and they refunded me the difference, which amounted to about $AU20. Maybe not much, I know, but it was the principle of the thing.

Sometimes items come up on my ebay feed and I see that they are US based and while I would love to buy them (have even had discount offers sent on ones in my saved list), if I see the postage alone is almost dearer than the item, my eyes glaze over and I reluctantly click away.

I suspect that's a massive reason we don't buy as much from USA.

I’ve not had anything from the US sent to me via the GSP or eIS. I have had two items sent from the UK via eIS but that’s a different kettle of fish.

Not trying to split hairs, but the UK international forwarding service is still the GSP.  The UK hasn't switched over to eIS yet, and I'm not sure when or if it will happen.

That's pretty much what I suspected.  Our geographical proximity to the US as well as our well-established trade relationship means that postage costs from the US to Canada, while still pricey, aren't nearly as dear as those to other countries.

No it is not, the GSP is run by Pitney Bowes, they have no presence at all in the eIS.

They are merely similar enterprises...................
