So your complaint is about a fake product, not an overseas seller claiming to be Australian? The subject of THIS thread.
There are remedies for your complaint, assuming the tell tale fake packaging wasn't what was advertised.
If you've been using the product for 8 years, why didn't you buy this lot from your previous supplier?

Item Location misrepresentation has been going on for 10 years and nothing will ever get done to fix it. eBay have no mechanism to accurately check where the item is located. They do however publish the country the seller is registered in.
It is now up to buyers to make an informed decision whether to buy that product based on some obvious information.
1. Click on the seller name and check their registered location.
2. Read their neutral and negative feedback. Many Chinese sellers have BIG BIG feedback numbers.
3. If the item is under $10, how could it be posted locally when Australia Post's retail minimum parcel price is $8.95.
a) Nothwithstanding, many Chinese sellers now use consolidation (via Australia Post) to deliver items within 7-10 days from China and this is where the sellers are using the "AU - warehouse" locality scam.
b) Yes, there are some Chinese sellers who have set up Australian warehouse fulfillment services mainly in Melbourne and Sydney.

It seems eBay haven't taken up the idea. It's been a year since that post and nothing has changed.

Missed that. Always count on you though to check the posting dates 😉

How exactly does it affect you if people reply to old posts? You seem to have a real issue with it?

It often resurrects old information that has been superseded. As people don't check dates, they think it is current, which can lead to disappointment or confusion.
In this case, while it might be a good idea, I was pointing out that the idea has been around for a year and eBay haven't implemented it, so it's unlikely to happen.

Most of the long time regular posters have an issue with old threads being ressurected.
Things change very quickly both on ebay and in the real world.
Australia Post updates charges twice a year and ebay throws in new policies on a regular basis.
If members do not realise the thread is old there is the potential for decisions to be made based on outdated information
