Free postage

Why do some sellers list their items as free postage when they are actually local pickup only. This is false advertising, totally wrong and misleading. If it is local pickup then they should say so up front. If they say free postage then they should post for free! As simple as that! It **bleep** me off so much that I'm prepared to give Ebay away if nothing is done. You have to agree that we have to trust the person selling as much as they have to trust the person buying. Without trust Ebay can't survive nor can any online purchase house. Trust is what makes it work.

Well said, i was wondering the same thing. I see free postage, look at the item and it says look pick up or calculate.

Re: Free postage

Ebay have made it very confusing when listing an item correctly so that is shows pick up only.

There are two options for pick up items - the first option is when offering pick up in addition to offering postage and this is the option a lot of sellers choose thinking they are offering pick up only. They don't enter any postage costs - just choose pick up as an option but what they don't realise it that is shows in the searches as free post (as they didn't enter any postage costs) with an option to pick up.

The second option is not always visible so unless a seller knows it even exists they would have no idea it is there. It is this second option which sellers should choose when wanting to list items for pick up only.

Re: Free postage

I wondered if it came about because of choices made when listing.

Re: Free postage

Yes it is but it is really quite confusing when trying to list items for pick up only so it is a bit hard to blame sellers if it is an honest mistake.

Re: Free postage

Equally confusing when a large item that is obviously for pickup only has a postage cost of some small amount like it is confused with a parcel (looked at a house awning in a different state today that was $xx to buy with $14.90 postage, obviously a mistake)

Technically if you bought that you could expect the seller to send it for that.
