I wanted to buy a bottle of essential oil 15ml. from a US seller; their cost to post it was $28.22 for goodness sake. I checked out others from the US and they seem to have the highest post rates in the world! It's unfair and unrealistic. What is going on here. Are these prices legitimite and if not how are these sellers getting away with this??

That is a rather rude way to tell us to do our homework.
And how does it take into account that sellers can add a fee for packaging and handling. And as we have no idea how sellers will package an item we have no idea what the final weight will be, even if the seller has put the weight of the item in the listing.
And it certainly has no bearing on the amount charged by Pitney Bowes, who do not use the USPS to ship overseas.

I only buy vintage/old stuff and the US has lots of wonderful things that we don't have, i always ask the seller if they will consider posting 1st class, as long as the item meets the size and weight requirements its quite cheap. Lots don't even know that their listing says they use the global shipping mob. I have been caught out once or twice where the seller insists they have fixed it from there end and it hasn't worked. My packages have arrived in the same time with a note on Ebay paper about the package being opened and checked. I think its a rort, just more profit making for doing little. But yes you don't have insurance with 1st class, so it is a bit of a gamble.

Try getting shipping to Australia via FedEx. Anything you purchase seems to ship from Sarasota,
FL. Then does a marathon trip around the USA, before eventualy leaving for Australia.
The cost is prohibitive, frequently costing more than the purchased item.

The last item I had sent from the US was sent USPS. Sent Dec 2 from CA arrived Australia Sort Facility Dec 7. Delivered to me Dec 11. So almost as long to be delivered within Australia as it took to get from the US to Australia. This was exceptionally quick, but I can usually expect 8-15 day deliveries.
My last shipment of essential oil sent in April this year from the US via USPS cost 16.69 USD for a 60ml bottle. So sellers can sometimes charge over and above USPS shipping costs. US sellers have often commented on the high cost of postage to Australia.

Are you sure they ALL have tracking and Insurance?
on 25-12-2013 07:36 PM
Yes, they do all have tracking and insurance at FedEx. I would prefer to use UPS, I think they are far quicker and more reliable.
We are seldom asked if we have any preferance in shippers, only the cost per speed? for deliveries.

There is also the case of using a forwarding house. Either in the US or the EU/UK
You end up with a local address for the seller to send to.
They process and forward taking care of mostly everything to your door.
Example is:
Worked many times for me.
Just a thort.

Why would a buyer care about tracking or insurance.
These are for the seller's protection from the buyer.

I was, possible still am ? using a freight forwarding facility in Sarasota FL. It is not so much the cost I care about, I do choose to select the fastest possible means of dispatch.
However in my experience so far, the Uninted States Postal Service, in conjunction with Australia Post are by far the quickest shippers. FedEx and DHL, do not compare well in their service with the more traditional, some may even say outmoded service offered by the postal services'.
It is in my opinion far easier and more reliable to use the established services with good reputations' and reliable service.
