Have any buyers had a problem where seller accepts money via direct deposit and sends to courier

I purchased item from a high volumn seller and chose Direct Deposit to pay for item.   It was paid for within minute of purchase agreement.   The item plus postage cost $20.00  The item did not arrive in the time was advertised as being delivery date.   I gave it  further week and made enquirey.   I received an email informing me that they had had it returned as the courier was unable to deliver and had left a note informing that I couly ringing a number to collect .    They returned it to seller.   I disputed this claim as there was someone in the unit at all times.   (I live in a retirement  village.)   The seller sid that he has the card that was left.   He then refused to send money back.   Icontacted the couriier and was informed that the item was picked up from the NSW seller and taken to Depot and because the label was incorrect, returned to the seller.  The item did not even leave SYDNEY let lone delivered to me in QUEENSLAND. The seller had sent me an email offering to send it back to me for a fee of $10 and I told him no I was not at fault.  I then heard no more from and I then contacted EBAY and was given a dispute status.   They sent me a telephone number and email address to contact seller direct.   The seller was given my details and I first of all sent emais.   After 7 or 8 that was not relied to I started to telephone (these calls were long distance and costs high.   The first call was answered but when i GAVE WHO i WAS IT WAS TERMINATED.   I reported this to EBAY who put me on to PAY PAL who informed me, after aa couple of weeks, that as I had not used them to pay for item, they were unable to help.   I have made many many telephone calls  none have been answered.   Again I told Ebay disputes and this was again ignored.   This was over several months .   So it is dead money.   I

Sorry, but you have probably done your dough. A very good reason why you should NEVER pay any other way than PayPal. As it's been so long now, you can't even open an eBay dispute, you only have 30 days to open one of those. So sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Would it be worth spending the $10 to get it resent? At least that way you'd only be out of pocket $10 and still have the item as opposed to losing $20 and the item.

You can't open an ebay dispute if you have used bank deposit, only if you have used one of the safe payment methods. If you had the wrong address showing in checkout then you should be responsible for paying for it to be resent but if the address was correct you either have to do as Sheepie said and pay up or be out the $20.

You can definitely open a request, but you can't get your money back via a case. There was an instance recently where they buyer paid via bank deposit and opend a request, and the funds were put on hold in PayPal - I don't think the funds could have been forcibly removed, as it were, but if a refund was voluntarily granted by the seller, it may have been facilitated by eBay and funded that way.

OP, I'm assuming the address provided to the seller was 100% correct (otherwise I see no reason for their story and the courier's story about why it wasn't delivered wouldn't match). Unfortunately, as the others have said, the options to get your money back are pretty limited, but if you definitely provided the correct address, meaning whatever happended was seller error, and they refuse to refund or resend at their expense (wouldn't trust them enough to send more money, to be honest), I'd report them for online fraud (wouldn't necessarily get your money back, but an official complaint is a good start).

sorry reply was to the OP

"The item did not arrive in the time was advertised as being delivery date."

just another thing besides you doing your money. the date on the listings are not official dates of arrival they are simply ESTIMATES so don't slam sellers for slow postage if they don't arrive by that date.

Also if the seller uploaded the tracking number it was in your Purchase History so you could track it yourself. You could have then seen there was an issue and sorted it before it was returned.
