I recently choose sellers in Australia in my search list and found out later that they were in fact in China. If I search for Australian listings it should only show Australian based sellers shouldn’t it?

No, it often means that those are products that are only sent to Australia, even if they originate overseas. If you want products that are actually in Australia you should look at the profile of the seller and see if they are registered in Australia.
This is not foolproof and some Chinese sellers have warehouses here.

Nope, that search shows what listings are supposedly located in Australia. Many Chinese registered sellers will state item location as Australia to get past the filter.
Always check the sellers feedback page for registration location.
Edit. G'day maranock.

Thanks for the response. I usually look for Australian sellers of which, I understand their products may be shipped from o/s, so I am supporting our economy and some sort of legal rights. Lesson learnt - Contact seller to ensure they are from where they say they are before purchasing.

A buyer should always check the seller's feedback page before buying anyway
Just because a seller is in Australia does not mean they are a 'good' seller
But, also that page will tell you exactly where a seller is registered and show if they lie about where the items are being sent from
A lot of problems and potential problems can be avoided by one extra click

Cheers for the info...

There is no need to contact the seller (IF they are dodgey, they will likely lie anyway)
Simply look where they are registered and look what their feedback is like, that will tell you everything

As someone else has said, many Chinese sellers have warehouses in Australia. Thus the items (not the seller) are in Australia, which is correct. Listings only show the item's location, not the Seller's location. I have received all purchases from these sellers in a very short time, so the items were as stated in Australia. If you want to know where the seller is located, check their profile and it will state where they are registered.
