I purchased a buy it now item on the 22/8 and apparently it was faulty, so the seller had to order another one in.He finally posted it out today 5/9 but my purchase history says i only paid for it on 4/9,how does that work when i paid when i bought it.Its no big deal just wondering is all

The only possible way I can think of is if unmarking as payment received, then marking as payment received again - I haven't tested whether that would affect the payment date in eBay, though.

However the seller did it he has done you a favour because the time for a dispute starts on the date you paid for the item.
You have gained an extra 13 days.

That's actually something I didn't even think about - I suspect the transaction date in PayPal wouldn't change at all and it would still be 45 days from the actual date of payment, but eBay's little warning pop-up might be thrown out of whack.
I was thinking that if a seller chose to do that, it might be based on some of the criteria for auto-5 DSRs, but aside from that form of manipulation, if it messes with dispute info etc, it could be a little more dangerously misleading.
