How do I find a seller`s details after I have paid for my item.

Once I have purchased and paid for my item the seller has my personal contact details yet I have no idea of their contact details in case something goes wrong. How do I find them? Until the item actually arrives I am unsure who the seller actually is and where they really live .

Recently I purchased something and the item was listed as being in one suburb yet when the parcel arrived the address( no name provided) on the back was from a different area. Also the name on the ebay confirmation email was different to the invoice which was different to the name on paypal`s receipt. From what I have dragged from the seller they were all ficticious .In all she had 7 names or combinations of these names so I really have no idea who I am buying from or where the item actually is in case it goes astray and I have to start chasing it.Even Aust Post needs a starting point!!

If the parcel is delayed  or lost I know I can put in a paypal claim and eventually get a refund but it is not about the money. if I buy something I want the item.Ebay is confidental to protect sellers and buyers , I understand that but once an item is paid for it seems to be one sided and i feel buyers should have the security of knowing who they are really buying from, not just a ficticious ebay name.

You can use contact seller for ebay generated email to seller or if there is a lack in communication you can use the "request seller details".

There is no guarantee as details provided are only what seller has provided to ebay. And by doing so the sller receives your information from ebay which wil also include your provided phone numbers. So I would use this as a last resort when all other contact avenues have failed.

By in general, I would just say to you that when using ebay or any online auction site remember a couple of valid sayings.:

Caveat Emptor : let the buyer beware

and

If something appears to be too good to be true, it generally is.

So basically before pressing that buy button or bid, read sellers feedback, totally read description , postage etc and if in doubt, conatct seller and asks questions before buying.

You really don't need the sellers details "just in case" something goes wrong and the parcel goes missing.  You just contact the seller through ebay messages.  Only the seller can start an enquiry with Australia Post, for the very reason that you stated....they know where and when it was posted.

As for the seller knowing all your details....how else are they going to post your item if they don't get your full name and address?

As long as you pay with Paypal you don't need to know the seller's details, if your item doesn't arrive or it is not as described you open a dispute through Paypal where the only information you need is the fact you have paid and the transaction is there in Paypal.

The only time I have ever requested contact details is when it is a pick up item and the seller has not provided me with a phone number and it has been more than a couple of days since auction end.

relax!!! if you don't get your parcel in 10 days or so then just open a paypal item not received claim. That's all you need to do.

snowyheron when you make a purchase an automated eBay notification that you have won the item is sent to your email addy - with subject starting  "Enjoy your ........"  and listing title details.

On this notification you will find the sellers name as registered on eBay.

There are several reasons that parcels may appear to come from a different location than the location shown on the listing.

This might be that seller may prefer to a work or business address as the return address for parcels because it is simply more convenient for them in the event of a return.

Or it might be that the seller may have moved house, work or business and not even thought to update their default location preference that shows in their listings.

I trade with several different ids on eBay - and generally use different paypal email addys to assist in differentiate origin of funds, only one of those emails reflects my actual name, and others include different names that I can remember easily.  An email address is not meant to signal or prove actual identity.
