How long should a seller take to post?

I completely understand some sellers are moving their postage time out so that the estimated delivery dates that ebay comes up with will give them a bit of leeway.

I also understand that sellers can't be expected to be posting every day.

However, I recently bought a couple of similar, small craft items-the sort that could easily go in an envelope. One item from Australia, one from UK. Both with postage included.

That was about 10 days ago.

The aussie seller posted out a day or so later and it arrived soon after, I was extremely happy with it, so that was all done and dusted a week ago.

Now, the UK seller has not even posted it yet. They are a large concern-they have over 6 million listings on ebay. They do give themselves a handling time of 10 days but I honestly thought-big business, they are covering themselves, they are probably likely to ship it within a week.

My question is-am I being unreasonable to feel so annoyed? I think any business of that size should be capable of posting out in 7 days.

My perception is they are slack and I will probably ding any postage time star, to be honest.

I could not agree more......I often tell sellers to post when it is convenient.

I never expect them to make a special trip to the PO just for my parcels.

You should be on Ebays policy committee. Not only do Ebay expect sellers to do this, but they need to prove it.

I am well aware of ebay's policies but I have never agreed with them, especially now.

I am one of those dreadful buyers who could not care less what a seller states for handling time...as long as my item arrives in a reasonable timeframe and by the service stated.

I don't want upgraded services such as express in place of regular post, or courier in place of AP and certainly no signed for service where I have to get to the post office to collect it.

No problems with dinging slow shipping stars even if it is within their stipulated period. Just dont do negative fb on issues within their promised time frames.

DSRs are not defects now, only a heads up to other buyers that this seller takes a while to ship things, Which in fact just backs up their own terms

I absolutely would never do that. I know I may come across as mean but I'm not that mean.Smiley Very Happy

Personally, I have only ever given a neg for items not received.

I suppose I have just been venting as I think 10 days or more is not 5 star service.

Better I take it out on here than on the seller, hey?Smiley Happy

They never offered 5 star service (your idea of 5 star service) so why complain when you don't get it?  You assumed you'd get something different to what they offered.  If you were selling and a buyer expected they'd get something better/different to what you offered, you'd say that's their fault, not yours.  You can't expect something that was never offered and then punish a seller when you don't get it.

If a seller only offers 4 star service (or 3 star) and that's what you get, they deserve 5 stars because you've got exactly what was offered.  The stars aren't about rating the level of service compared to other sellers, they're to rate them against what they offered.

Agreed it pays to keep in mind many buyers deliberately dont want signed for post logistical reasons. many simply can't be home and can't get to the Post office, and have workable safe drops.

Reassurance that your order has not ben lost in the sellers system and that it is being processd and on its way is the big thing for buyers. A few days can seem like weeks when you are waiting. Its during this time buyers start question whether they would have been better driving down to the store. i think this is what Ebay are now focusing on.

I now get lodgement tracking, not just because of defects risk but as a reassurance to buyers that its on its way. Full shipment tracking is, and will become more, an expectation from buyers. Clicjk and hope it turns up is becoimg a thing of the past.

Scanner equjipped post boxes and/or after hours outlet drop offs for parcels and letters is where the future of AP needs to be. After all I can lodge a library book overnight and either it scans at the slot or it is scanned when cleared by staff next morning. A similar slot at an outlet could scan the item, and if valid prepaid, slot opens and parcel deposited. The technology is there.

I believe ID is not required for international parcels soon, could this be a step towards auto lodgement such as this? There is no need for manual staff scanning for stachels and letters..Get with the tech AP please.

-------------------

I didn't assume I would get something different at all. I factored in a 10 day postage period. However, it has now been 10 business days since I paid and no sign of posting out yet. I don't think it is unrealistic to think that 'within 10 days' does not necessarily mean on no account will they be posted before day 10.

With some businesses it might take 7 days, others might take 8 or 9. If there is some hold up, it could take more than 10 but in that case I would expect communication to notify me of a delay.

And as a buyer, I am free to rate it as I wish, that is the reality. Buyers can indeed punish a seller if they take a mind to it.

If a seller says they usually post within 10 days and then they don't, in my opinion that isn't worthy of 5 stars. And that is rating them against what they offered.

I suppose the reason I posted this thread in the first place is-and I know you think I am a buyer from hell-but actually I'm not-so if this is how I feel, it is how a lot of buyers would feel.

There is no logical reason why many buyers would think they have to give 5 stars just for a seller doing what they contracted to do. I usually do give the 5 stars, mind you. But I imagine many buyers save the 5th star for impressive service.

Could not agree with you more. Ebay are at you to pay immediately then the seller takes their time shipping the items. Incredibly annoying, I would never purchase from that seller again.
