I ave noticed that some eBay clients don't have an area in the listing. I am interested in some carpet but it needs to be local to pick up but I can't find what are the advertised carpet is in.

Up the top of the page next to the blue search button you will see the word "advanced". Click on this and it gives you a number of search options. Scroll down and you will see a section where you can set your searches for items within a certian number of KM. from your post code. Add in the Km. and this will give you local items. Contact the seller to ensure local pick-up is OK. if the listing does not indicate local pick-ups. ( You should be right with carpet though )

I used that function the other week, Chameleon, and it was showing the suburb right next to mine (I actually live on the border between the two suburbs) as being 80 klm away! At best, the furtherest address in that suburb from mu postcode is 17klm away!

I use it from time to time just to browse whats out there and it is usually pretty good for finding local stuff, but as you say the actual Km. are not always accurate. I dont know of any other way to refine local searches further.
