Question for the importers out there.
Import taxes are paid on imports of over $1000, so if you buy lots of cheaper stuff from different people is the cost totaled each time you import OR is it only on over $1000 in a single shipment that means you pay taxes?
Do they scan and record everything to keep track of a single persons imported items?

import tax (GST) and duty is only for single shipments over $1000 . But if you are a business, it doesn't really matter..
and i don't think that customs keep track of inported goods or values..

Here is where you get the best information.

I think if one imports goods for less than $1,000.00 from different Exporters and stagger tem at different times, one would not have to pay import taxes.

We import and it doesn't matter where you get your items from , it could be from 10 different suppliers, it goes on the whole value of whats in the box, keep it less than $1,000, we've sent two 25kg cartons from overseas a week apart no problem but make sure the CORRECT valued invoices are securely stuck to the outside of the box, NOT inside.

As per Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, the packages from a single consignor overseas are combined for duty and tax assessment purposes. It can't be split or broken down even if the goods are for friends and relatives if the declared or assessed value reaches A$1000. I do think they have a record of all incoming packages and surely, they can determine the packages being sent to you if it's coming from a single person.
Australian Customs is quite strict with regards to importation of items. As they are many employees on that department, you would not want to risk it and then later on have Customs running out to get you for misdeclaration as that would result to more penalties. Besides, even if you chop it off and avoid going above the A$1000 point, you'll have to pay more for shipping instead of declaring true value with a one-time shipping fee.
