Hi All,
I recently bought a book and when I received it, the cover was different from the picture.
Besides leaving bad feedback, is there anything I can really do? I know when I sell things I always make sure that the photos are accurate because I thought they had to be.
Any help would be appreciated!
Brooke

Hi.
If I checked the correct listing, it actually states that this may be the case so it seems a bit unfair to leave bad feedback when they were upfront about it.
' Please note covers may be different to what is shown as we send what is sent to us from the publishers, if you are after a certain cover please contact us before purchasing to find out if we have it available. '

Ahh thank you. I did try and look for something like that before I asked for advise but obviously didnt see it.
I did send them an email about a week before buying it to ask and never got a response. Lesson learnt there.
Thank you so much for responding, your help is appreciated.

I thought you would have had to display a picture of the actual item you are selling...not one similar?

Unfortunately not, bsal, especially in the book sector.
The big dropshippers get their listing data from publishers' catalogues and all they have to input is the ISBN. eBay's own catalog [sic] will then provide publishing info PLUS a pic of a brand new book for the listing.
A lot of medium volume sellers of USED books also use the catalog [sic] data and get the same info.
I have a book listed where I am the only seller who uses the author's name. Why, you (probably didn't) ask? Because a generic source has the wrong author attributed to this book and I seem to be the only eBay seller who actually read the front cover (and took my own pic).

I think I read recently that in the US that they are at least changing some of the rules about book listings and all second hand books must have photo of actual book for sale. I assume that eventually the change will occur here, as it does no favours to buyers at all.

Bring it on.
This is getting a bit embarrassing, cats, that's twice(?) in the last month we've agreed.

But was this particular book second hand or remaindered stock? Books can go through several reprints and updates in their lifetime. One of mine has just been reissued with not only a new cover, but with a new title as well - it's still the same story inside though.

Should also be a different ISBN, which is the key used.
