US $23.50 | Australia | USPS Priority Mail International Small Flat Rate Box | Estimated Delivery within 7-12 business days |
is it reasonable that the global shipping joke charges $75 to ship the same item?

The GSP has been in use long enough for it to be declared illegal if indeed it is.
There has been much talk on the boards about taking legal action but it has not happened so I would assume that no legal firm will touch it.
How do you work out that I am in bed with any scam company?
How is the buyer being protected from neg results? Sellers have not been able to leave negatives for buyers for many years and it has nothing to do with the GSP. I think you are confused.....SELLERS are protected from negative feedback being left by disgruntled buyers who are unhappy with the GSP. I can't see how it is illegal either as feedback is not compulsory.0

Hi puffinbillytown and welcome to the board. I hear what you say. The double dipping as you put it or the scam as many others put it is probably legal. Doesn't make it right though. Far from it!
As for the negatives being removed. I can see that some sellers could exploit it and use the GSP Neg Removal process to hide behind. Having dealt with some of the most dishonest sellers around (Thankfully not too many) I can see this happening.
There is a question that could be a topic for discussion here. If a seller knowingly uses the Pitney Bowes GSP and an item arrives terribly late (as they do at times), should the seller be liable for a negative? I personally would have mixed thoughts about this as some sellers still don't know what's happening with NBN and some have been pushed in without knowing.
Anyway puffinbillytown , it's good to hear from you and you havemade a couple of valid points to adress.

Items can arrive terribly late regardless of the shipping service used, so the premise for debate is flawed at the outset.
A better topic for debate is should a seller be held responsible for the actions, or failures, of the carrier service they use? Why, or why not?

on what grounds? That the cost of GSP is higher than USPS? Exactly what is the ‘scam’?
PB charge for the preparation of an item for exporting. This may involve unpacking and repacking an item, inspection to ensure customs compliance, completion of customs declarations, collection of GST and the shipping charge to send to Australia. For this they charge you.
Their billing practices may seem unfair, but that does not make it a scam.
The times I have found that high GSP is charged has been when sellers fail to list the item properly. Is your class action going to go after sellers?
Have you approached Maurice Blackburn about starting an action? OR, are you wanting someone else to do that and then you would jump on board?
A class action? By an Australian company representing Australians? Against a company based in the USA, with no physical or legal presence in Australia?
Go for it.

@davewil
I have seen many, many posts where members seem to be looking for others to start an action that they would seem to be happy to join (in the 9 years I have frequented these boards).
Grow a pair and start the action yourself is what I would like to reply with when these type of posts are made.
Back in June, a poster posted “I hope and pray somebody challenges the government” regarding the introduction to the GST (post #95). When I replied with “Here's an idea . . . . . why don't you challenge the government?” the first poster then posted (using another of his posting IDs) “Typical, let somebody else shovel the proverbial schit.....” (post # 106)
Truly a keyboard warrior if ever there was one!

Indeed. They always want somebody else to do the heavy lifting. I suppose it shows the depth of their indignation commitment to truth, justice and the American way. Too bad we're in Australia, which is not yet the 51st state.
