Is it legal for Global Shipping Program to charge $50 extra to actual cost of $23

US $23.50
Australia
USPS Priority Mail International Small Flat Rate Box

Estimated Delivery within 7-12 business days

is it reasonable that the global shipping joke charges $75 to ship the same item?

actually, it shows in search result lists AND on listings that the GSP will be used, you just need to be made aware of where to look for future reference.  Here tis:

That GSP charge is the total charge for the GST that applies to the item+shipping, the fee they charge to collect the GST and process all the paperwork to enable the item to be imported into Australia AND the shipping cost for getting the item from Erlanger Kentucky to you here in Australia.

I know we all love to complain about the high cost of GSP, but just a gentle reminder that for larger, bulky items it can actually work out to be pretty cheap, as I found out once before.

Considering the Global Scam Program seems to overcharge all the time it's probably legal.....but that doesn't necessarily make it right.

Hi zanadoo_56, your first three words summed it up nicely and accurately.

Not always the case tazzieterror. I have heard that there are even some other cheaper more relaible ways of having bulky items sent over. The thing is that GSP makes its money of the many many many smaller items and it's making a kiling while the ordinary man / woman in the street pays through the nose. Unjust, unfair, immoral and cruel

If you have heard that there are cheaper more reliable services than the GSP for larger, bulky items can you please state what those services are?

Evidence from members who have actually used the GSP for heavier items is that they are quite pleased with the service and costs but I am sure they would be open to suggestions from someone who has "heard" of cheaper and better services.

Sellers need to take some responsibility for the costs of the GSP......it they were to follow the rules and put weight and dimensions in the listings there are a lot of listings that would be considerably cheaper....much more in line with the USPS services.

Also, how often do you see a card or some such small light item being sent by the GSP when t could go as a letter in an envelope.

The GSP is not even for letters....it is a parcel service so naturally the charges will be off the planet if the sellers cannot even follow the rules for items suitable to send through the GSP.

Off hand I can't remember but alternative method for shipping is on on of the GSP related threads about 2-3 months ago.

I have seen posts by 3 or 4 members saying that they had i9t OK with GSP for larger items. I have seen many more posts about the nightmare that GSP / Pitney Bowes has proven itself to be, incl another member here talking about an elec guitar that was confliscated by Ptney Bowes and ended up being sold on a website related to Pitney.

Even with correct weight and dimensions,  a buyer will pay double or more shipping costs then they would if the seller sent via the more relaible and trusted USPS. If a buyer wins 4 items from 4 different auctions, they can end up paying $75 post instead of $20 and risk having items damaged by the pathetic re-packing as I have been witness to 2 times. There's also the additional risk of theft.

I do agree about the letter part though.

How do you work out that USPS is a more reliable and trusted service than the GSP?

The GSP uses FedEx, an international courier service, to ship from the USA to Australia....and so does the USPS on occasions.

The USPS uses international courier services to ship to Australia.....FedEx, UPS, DHL among others....so why does it make USPS any more reliable when they are using the same services?

I have never had any damage via USPS with the hundreds of items I have purchased from the US. I have had had terrible damage  on an ultra rare dvd set. Poor packing on mega mega rare VHS tapes and other hassles relating to that order.

USPS is a third of the cost of GSP. And it's mainly a point A to point B postage. Unlike PB / GSP that has too many links in a bad chain, items arrive quicker and safer via USPS.

USPS using Fedex, only in a minority of cases. Most items are delivered via Aust Post or if large, Couriers please etc , Aust Courier service.

which only highlights what has been said here on the boards about the pitfalls of posting on so many GSP themed threads, even to just offer support to another poster.

You obviously don't understand what I am saying.....the GSP uses FedEx to transport items from the USA to Australia.  Once in Australia the majority of small items are handed to Australia Post.  Other items are delivered by FedEx themselves, or other couriers.

USPS uses a variety of couriers.....FedEx, UPS, DHL etc. to transport ot Australia where they are all handed to Australia Post.

Both services use international couriers between the USA and Australia.
