I have used paymate to receive payments in the past, but it was quite some time ago. They're a legitimate company, a compeitor of paypal. I never had any problems with them.

I believe it is as safe a method as any, as said above, a competitor for paypal.
Hope it all works out

I understand your hesitation in using a different payment service.
I am so used to paying via paypal I got a bit of a surprise when I recently made a few purchases and then found that the sellers only offered paymate.
I went through the guest checkout for each no probs at all, I would only note that the final payment email advices seem to take between a few hours to a day, to arrive confirming payment clearance.

I've had to use it as a buyer, I never signed up for it though, just used it as a guest. It's very simple to use and doesn't cost the buyer. Don't know what it's like if you need to open a dispute though.

You can only make 2 claims a year with paymate and you have to pay a fee to do so.

If you have already purchased it is a bt late to start being concerned about usng Paymate if that was the only safe payment method the seller offered.
You are obliged to pay and should do so, whatever anyone's opinion of Paymate is it is at least a thousand percent safer than paying by bank deposit!

Just be aware with paymate the seller can opt to pass on all fees, half the fees or none to the buyer.

It is against ebay policy to pass on directly any financial transaction related fees, whether it be paypal or paymate or other services. The fees can be incorporated into the item cost, but not added separately after sale.
I also note that paymate site indicates that there is no cost to a buyer for lodging a dispute or making a claim, but claims are limited to 2 per year.
