Interesting PayPal development.... http://www.ecommercebytes.com/cab/abn/y12/m12/i14/s01
If PayPal are going to rate sellers on their performance (using disputes, refund frequency and time between payment and refund), and use that data to restrict payments / accounts, then no matter how they think they're protecting themselves, I believe they'll be giving a big ol' helping hand to their competitors. ๐
And, as pointed out in the article the one above links to, with eBay encouraging 30-day no questions asked money back returns, how many sellers will be penalised for offering what one company says is "good service" and the other analyses as "poor performance"? ?:|

I would be absolutely delighted to see some more comparable competition come into the market for sending and receiving secure payments with a decent level of buyer and seller protection.

Paymate coulda been a contender, but their business model appears flawed. Certainly from a buyer's point of view.

It boils down to this, for me anyway - it's a sad state of affairs when a payment processing company has such a monopoly on the market they feel free to create an environment where people could be scared to use any of the facilities they offer other than send / receive funds, such as issue a refund or open a dispute, particularly as there is little evidence thus far of said company exercising real judgement when making decisions to restrict or suspend account usage. ๐

I would imagine that in a legal sense, once an item has been 'proven' as sent then AusPost ( or whichever carrier ) should be legally liable for any loss. I guess this only applies in the real world and not the fantasy land that ebay / PayPal have created.
I have taken full advantage of this system and to date have scored 2 iPads, and a high end lap top.
What I meant to say was 2 packets of rocks and some tiles.
Yes I was joking but I know it happens. There are some real 'things' out there on both sides of the fence. Perhaps in future times a JP type person can open packages, examine and test the contents for a buyer in exchange for a modest fee ( where expensive items are concerned ).

yes, competition is good in theory, but in real world it does not always work the way we hope for. More PP type service providers will only make it all more complicated; who will remember what rules are for which company? I like things simple. I used to be happy with PP, never wanted to use other service; but now I will be looking at offering Paymate because it looks like there will be some perfectly good buyers who cannot pay with PP. It's just too annoying, I want all my money going in one place; I even hate DD despite saving few dollars if people use it to pay me.

Mmm isn't that kinda the same as saying more banks will only make banking more complicated.?:|
I reckon choice is better than no choice or very limited choice.
