Item damaged in post - just looking for some wording to approach seller

Hi

I have just received a pair of earrings in the mail and one has been crushed - possibly by a sorting machine (?)

I don't want to open an INAD at this point but I'm not sure how to address it with the seller - 18 years on Ebay and only one prior problem so I'm not well-versed in this scenario.

I know there are some great wordsmiths here so just wondering if someone can help me with some words so I can advise the seller than one earring is damaged and I would like a replacement. I am probably overthinking it.

It's an Australian small business with good feedback so I'd like to support them.

Thanks

Item damaged in post - just looking for some wording to approach seller

All sellers know that this can happen, especially when sending solid items in an envelope.

Just take a pic and message the seller with what has happened and the pic then wait till the seller gets back to you with their remedy. No need to worry at this stage. Most sellers are understanding and professional about such things.

The worst that can happen is that they won't come to the party and you open a inad complaint - then you will need to post them back to the seller (if they want them back) and the seller will refund the item plus postage.

❝Dear seller,

I've just received the earrings which I purchased from you (item number xxxxxx).

Unfortunately they have arrived damaged.

They're crushed, I tell you - crushed!

And I - alas, I am suffereing deeply at this sight. My doctor will probably tell me that I have PTCD as a result. Yes, I too am crushed - utterly - by this event.

I include a photograph of the crushed earring, plus a random photo of my foot.

If you are able to refund me within the next 36 hours, that would be greatly appreciated. (Please also send Elephant Balm.)

Best regards from your crushed yet resilient buyer,

(I'm sorry - I'm feeling very peculiar after having to take some stronger pain medication during the night, and I don't seem to be able to stop typing nonsense. I've just had to throw away a 3-page report because it's nothing but ridiculous whimsy, and I fear an essay is heading the same way.)

Hi cezm. How did you get on with the replacement (or if no replacement possible), a refund? Did the seller say much about how the item got damaged? n cases like this I always give a positive to the seller when they rectify the problem. But I also politely point out the problem and see if they take note of it to ensure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Once a I purchased a pristine rare LP from an inexperienced seller. She just sent it to me in a bubblewrap bag and no other protection. Luckily it arrived in pristine cond without having any of the expected damages like folded or creased corners. She understood what I told her and was very thankful when I emailed her some diagrams on how to make record mailers out of plain cardboard. Also with caution with using a box cutter knife. Anyway,I gave her a positive fb rating. I was concerned more about the trouble she could get in to with not knowing how to pack record LPs.

Quite often some sellers just don't envisage the problems that can occur when sending items through the mail. Extra precaution with packing costs next to nothing and is the best way to go.

All ended well. The seller offered to make and send another or refund. I chose refund. Of course, the item is now in my unpaid items

It is normal for refunded items to go back into your list to be paid.

You can ignore it and it will be archived in due course or you can hide it yourself.
