Hi all, we purchased a 43kg item that we paid an extra $72.00 for delivery. Yes, we are in a country area, and the seller is aware of this when quoting delivery, but we now find that the courier that has been forwarded the item, does not come as far as our area, and we have to do an 80kl round trip to collect our item. I would think it fair to ask for a part refund on the freight as the item was supposed to be delivered to our address, not 40ks away. This is not the first time this has happened, and we think it is pretty rude that we should be out of pocket after paying a premium delivery fee. What do the board members think? Many thanks.

I am curious did you tell the seller you have had problems getting deliveries in the past?
Ditto seller is not to know that you have a "hard" delivery address. Then seller could have sought confirmation from courier before confirmining shipping.. Was seller sdelivery quote a standardized rate or address specific.

The practice is going to continue unless you take a stand. If the businees where you collected the parcel decides they will not longer act as a drop off point the courier company will have to do what they are paid to do.....deliver to your door.
Complain to Allied so they can do something about their offload carrier. They can't act if they don't know what is going on.

I'd be furious too.
Apart from anything else, a 43kg parcel is very heavy and not everyone might be capable of putting it in their car and unloading it at home.
You paid the money, you deserved to have it delivered. The time to complain was probably when they told you to pick it up asap. You probably should have taken a stand then & contacted the seller then.
I doubt you will get any money back without a fight but I would be writing some letters to the company at least, with a please explain.
The seller charged you the extra delivery cost though & they should also come to the party to help out.

More than likely the extra money paid by the buyer was given by the seller to courier company for the door to door delivery. If this is the case both the Seller and Buyer should be giving the Original courier company curry and demanding a refund for non delivery. Some courier companies do state in their terms that in some areas items must be collected from a depot or drop off location - maybe the courier company on final leg has this in their terms.
The extra money may have only been to cover delivery to a regional area NOT door to door.

I agree with what you wrote.
It sounded to me as if the buyer knew it was a remote area and was willing to pay extra for the delivery & the seller must also have known as they added the extra charge.
It may be that the seller contacted a courier. Probably they did.
I would expect a courier to specify the conditions when they were contracted. If for very difficult addresses, they sometimes need things collected from a depot, I would expect them to explain that up front.
And then the seller could explain to the buyer and go from there.
But if the courier did not outline that at the start, then they have some explaining to do.

Thanks all for the help on this one. I have hit the seller for a part refund and they have replied that they are in the process of taking it up with the freight company, as in Allied Express. I have a funny feeling that the onforwarding courier is simply getting away with what they can, in that they just drop things short and this may work most of the time if customers happen to be in town near the drop off point to collect it. But, when a special trip has to be made, they can come unstuck, as in this case. The drop off point is a farm produce business, who like to have the deliveries cleared the same day, so as to not get bogged down with things that are unrelated to their core business, that's why we had to make the special trip that day to collect it. Will keep you posted.
