Hi.
I have bidded on a NEW doll. Cheap price but the same doll is now available and on sale (not normal stock) at Kmart for their toy sale. By the time postage is added to the doll I have bidded on, its going to be much more expensive than going and buying one at my local Kmart.
I don't read my catalogues in the post, thus had no idea when I did the latest bid.
Any suggestions what one can do in a situation like this? Or do I just get stuck with the doll and hefty postage?

Just remember that since eBay implemented changes May 1 2013 (such as the 30% premium mark-up on all Buy It Now from any starting auction price, which happened as a result of their research finding that most buyers like to buy it now) NOTHING much will be cheap on eBay in the future. Today I processed very large phone orders from people who would have normally bought from eBay but they told me it was no longer offering value for money. Who can blame them when the fees are also ridiculously high for sellers?
Try and retract your bid - after all, that is why the bid retraction facility is there for anyone to use.
Handy to read all the comments, or check out the OP.
The auction has ended.

Isn't the market value of an item the amount the market is willing to pay for the item?
No one forced the OP to pay anything but market value and the OP set the market value of the item by bidding at least twice on the doll.
Reminds me of many years ago and the $400 rocking horse, on sale in the Reject shop for $49 and with Christmas fast approaching there was a bidding war on the rocking horse and the winning bid was about $400 but the winner later found out from a family member that the rocking horse was only $49. Gee that bidder was really dirty on the seller but the seller did not have control over the bids placed on the item.
If anyone places a bid on an item then they have to be responsible for the amount they bid and they have to pay up if they win the auction.

Hi OP , you can retract your bid if there is more than 12 hrs to go, the items page, click the number in brackets next to the sellers name that says bids. You will go to a new page , then make sure you copy the item number before going any further or write it down, then at the bottom of the names of bidders there is a sentence telling you about cancelling at the end it says (Learn how) click it which takes you to the next page scroll to the bottom of the page and it will have a high lighted words that say (bid retraction form) click it. You will go to a new page where you can enter the item number and them choose your reason for cancelling under that select the one that says entered the wrong amount and click continue it should all be cancelled after that.
eBay do not like you using it so they make it hard to find but the laws just says they have to have the option not make it easy.
Good luck.

@i-once-was-bump No auctions have nothing to do with market values, There simply what someone is willing to pay for something. Many auctions sell stuff for way over market value and way under as well. Its what the buyers are willing to pay and that can vary from auction to auction item to item. The only time this is compromised is when an item at auction has a reserve.

Yes I know the auction has finished but they may still want to know how to do it that is why they asked the question they don't know how.
And it was posted on the 20th and they said there is 3 days to go. ? today is the 22nd I read already where you said it had ended but what that go to do with educating someone on how to use certain features of eBay.

OK wrong dates but still education goes a long way.

I wonder if people are racing into K Mart to buy that doll now ?
The OP has unwittingly given it a free advertisement....

Many of my store items are things I have purchased in retail stores either at sale price or they are cheap enough that I am sure I can sell on ebay at a decent profit. I do wait a few months though so buyers are unlikely to come across them in store at half the price I am charging ๐
