Misleading/incorrect item heading (and description)

When scrolling through items, I saw a listing that has incorrect information.

2 sewing machines listed as being 1921.

From the pics I know one was built no earlier than 1924 an the other 1934+

I am not interested in buying, but msgd the seller anyway. These machines are worth less than $100 combined. Current bid $300.

The seller response was rude.

I feel for the unsuspecting buyers.

I tried to report item but the eBay reporting process doesn't allow me to highlight the particular issue and is very limited.

I also cannot alert  the bidders.

Do I just let it go?

Sometimes I wanted to place a bid on items that the same seller also offered as BIN, and the BIN price was supposed to be my maximum bid..., but people started fighting and bidding more than the BIN price. It doesn't make much sense, but it happens.

It looks like the seller cancelled the other auction and started a new one with a starting price of $250. Not sure why he or she did that, as the other auction had a lower starting price, but had already reached a price of over $300?

Hi alichua and welcome to the forum. If you're right and I suspect that you are, then I applaud you for being concerned. Too often sellers mislead others with the descriptions.

If you can quickly do a little more research to confirm your suspicions then report it. I'm sure there is a way.

Once I saw some poor bidders reporting an auction on a supposed rare record LP. The LP original release could go up to US$300 back then.  It was sealed and the seller was trying to say that the bar-code was from the op shop where they picked it up from. Straight away I could see that it was a re-release. What makes it confusing is that the cover and label are almost  identical to the original. The re-release is indicated in the stamped info on the run-out groove and possibly a tiny print on the edge of the label. I know the release very well and have a sealed copy. I have also seen and examined several with an identical bar-code sticker in exactly the same place.  The LP re-release (one in a succession of many of that LP)  is a $30 new.

Anyway, it had a few days to go in the auction and I didn't have to report it as seller cancelled after 4th day or so obviously due to others reporting.  Yes, there are sellers who will try it on!

You're like many other people who don't like to see wrong and misleading practices with people being taken advantage of. Good on you for that!

Iโ€™m a little shocked by your obvious laziness here, 4C.
Why donโ€™t YOU do some research and also report the seller, if youโ€™re that proud of the OP and her concerns that need applauding????

Surely, two reports would be more effective than one?

Hmmmmm ๐Ÿค”

Its just a pity, that youโ€™ll both discover that the seller can list them for what ever price they want!

Must admit though - an interesting comparison between a sealed LP and an antique sewing machine. lol

(Probably best to leave it alone as buyers are really expected to do their own home work on said items. On the other hand I would like to know if the price was inflated. Your value may just be a little low but I am know expert). Would those be a little bit better of a reply than the "your a joke, mind your own business, what a nosey person you are or any other put down the keyboard warriors can emit. Cant people just make a respectful reply now days.

Re: Misleading/incorrect item heading (and description)

About 15 years ago when I was attending deceased estate auctions for stuff to buy and sell on Ebay, I came across a sewing machine. Most likely dated after 1970, but in those days I didn't have a clue about sewing anyway. Didn't even test it to see if it was working as I had no idea how to operate the thing.

Put it on Ebay for a starting bid of $20 and it sold for $350+.

It wasn't up to me to determine its worth - the buyers did that for me. If someone wanted to pay that amount, then I sure wasn't going to stop them, lol.
