Not sure of this...

Hi,

I bought an item here in Australia, I received that item and I am happy with it, but inside the parcel were Christian pamphlets....I am a little put out by this.

But I just wanted to know if this is against EBay policy?

I have received advertising for the sellers eBay seller page etc, but this is a first for me.

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/privacy-policy.html

When users are involved in a transaction, they may have access to each other's name, User ID, email address and other contact and shipping information. In all cases, you must give other users a chance to remove themselves from your database and a chance to review what information you have collected about them.

You agree to use user information only for:

    eBay transaction-related purposes that are not unsolicited commercial messages;

using services offered through eBay (such as escrow, shipping, and fraud complaints), or

other purposes that a user expressly chooses

So I would think it is a breach of the privacy policy to use the postal address gleaned through an ebay transaction to send any pamphlet not directly related to that specific ebay purchase.

"CRICKEY" so many posts are disappearing, looks like the atheists will win by default.

Honestly.... LOL. Why do you keep insisting it's atheists? What if it's an anti-Christian? Or any other "my God could beat up your God any day" type person, as they would have more reason to be intolerant of certain pro-religion comments than an atheist does. That's assuming the reason someone has decided to pick on you, as it were, actually has anything to do with religion at all. (There's a good chance it doesn't - some people just decide they'll target another person for some unfathomable reason).

And yes, unfortunately that is the way the reporting system here seems to work sometimes. I'd personally prefer that these boards had active moderation, and only posts that were obvious spam, graphically or obscenely offensive in general, or those that compromise personal and private details be subject to removal, and all others - if necessary - are edited and noted as so.  (eg A post that 'names & shames' a seller - the name could be removed rather than the entire post / thread, making it much simpler and easier for the poster to continue seeking advice).

Pretty much so.

It is a terrrible way to silence someone but it isn't necessarily other posters that do the reporting it could just as easily be someone reading the thread but not posting.

Some seem to have personal issues that make them remove posts just to try to stir up trouble between the other posters.

Once too many posts have been removed then the thread loses purpose and meaning that is why most "regulars" would prefer posts stay but be edited by ebay if necessary.

The other thing that is very annoying is the reasons given for the post removals are quite offensive and not something anyone wants against their name on the ebay database.

Wow.  I betcha the seller posting the pamphlets had little idea their actions could cause such a discussion among so many ebayers!

I don't like it either. If I was to put pamplets in saying to vote for the sex party next elections would that be appropriate.

But I wouldn't get to upset just bin it and maybe putin feedback that u didn't like it.

WOW (OMG doesn't seem quite right here:^O) I can't believe that after my tongue in cheek response back at the beginning this has turned into a cross between World War 111 and the Spanish Inquisition ("Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition" MP 1970)]:)

All the OP wanted to know was if it was against ebay policy to put Christian pamphlets in with the goods. Nowhere did they claim they were atheist, agnostic, satanist, muslim, hindu or any other persuasion up to and including tree worshippers from the depths of the Amazonian rain forest.;-)

If any unsolicited mail arrives trying to convert me to anything then I am inclined to send it back to the sender without a stamp, I am completely impartial and don't care if they are religious, political or anything else.

I agree with DG that I would object very strongly to anything of the sort being included in a parcel I had paid the postage for and I would definitely hit the seller's communication and postage stars big time!

eww, strange thing to recieve with your package eh? that would creep me out to a point of avoiding that seller and search elsewhere for similar products.

The only note i add is my sales are my ebay user name and the item number!

i bet doe head sends religious carp to all their buyers, never gets return buisness and scares them away, unless they happen to jag a religious freak

i'd leave positive feedback if theres nuthin wrong with the transaction, and would also mention the unwanted christian pamphlets
